Hilary Evans Paranormal Researcher

Hilary Evans

A self-styled and educated paranormal researcher, Hilary Evans is somewhat better known for helping to establish with his wife Mary, “The Mary Evans Picture Library” in 1964, a collection of millions of illustrations from the 18th and 19th centuries.

With a keen interest in the unusual, the paranormal and particularly Ufology in his younger days, it wasn't until the 1960's that he joined “The Society for Psychical Research”. In his time he was a member of “The British UFO Research Association” and “The Folklore Society”. In 1981 he co-founded “The Association For The Scientific Study Of Anomalous Phenomena”.

Born the son of a Vicar in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK, Hilary's family moved to India when he was just four years old, as his Father had taken a job as Headmaster at an Indian School. Aged nine, He returned to England and attended St Georges school in Hertfordshire.
Hilary went on to earn a Masters Degree at Birmingham University and soon took on tutoring Turkish families children. Eventually, he became a copywriter for an advertising agency where he worked for 12 years. Soon, he discovered (in agreement with his employer) that he was not management material, and so he devoted his time to freelance writing and his ever-growing library.

Hilary's library of paranormally related material was vast, weighing in at 5.5 tons when donated to the Archives for UFO Research in
Sweden. He collected all kinds of writings and drawings on UFO's and related materials, read, catalogued and kept in excellent condition,
Hilary wrote a vast number of books, and was able, through his own knowledge and a vast library,  to make conclusions and connections that other people missed, or simply ignored.
Some of his many many writings include:
  • Intrusions: Society and the Paranormal. London and Boston: Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1982.
  • Frontiers of Reality, Aquarian Press, 1989
  • Evans, Hilary "SLIders: The Enigma of Streetlight Interference" San Antonio, Texas: Anomalist Books, 2010

Hilary Evans born 6 March 1929; died 27 July 2011
May his memory live on through us.

The Haunts of Adelaide – History, Mystery & the Paranormal

The Haunts of Adelaide – History, Mystery & the Paranormal

Published by CUSTOM BOOK Publications It has always been Allen Tiller’s aim to provide a factual insight into haunted locations in Adelaide, and indeed, the rest of Australia. He lifts the veil on ghost stories and reveals the truth behind the myths and tales that so often become urban legend and local folklore. His mission is to research the historical facts of locations, people, places and buildings - from a distinctly paranormal perspective. The Haunts of Adelaide was born…

With previously unpublished stories.

Exclusive Haunting: Australia references

Avid paranormal enthusiasts may note that this book misses some allegedly haunted locations in Adelaide, such as The Light Hotel and Old Adelaide Gaol, this was done with the intention of keeping the cost of book down and also allowing the main location in this book “The Adelaide Arcade” (which was investigated for the very first time by the team from Haunting: Australia in 2013) to shine a little bit brighter – there will be a follow up book to “Adelaide” in the future, but the next book in the series will feature Kapunda, with some exclusive never before published ghost stories about Australia’s Most Haunted Town passed on by the locals of Kapunda!
It is my intention to follow in the footsteps of some of my favourite Authors like John Pinkney & Grant Osborn and write multiple books, but the real inspiration behind this series of books goes to two people Russell Smith, who resides right here in Adelaide and wrote the wonderful series of books “Curiosities of South Australia”, and Ghost Hunter Mr Peter Underwood who has written a huge number of books including the incredibly popular “Ghosts of” series which covered popular, and lesser known hauntings across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Ivan T. Sanderson F.L.S., F.R.G.S., F.Z.S., M.A. (Cantab)

Ivan T. Sanderson

Ivan T. Sanderson F.L.S., F.R.G.S., F.Z.S., M.A.(Cantab). Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Fellow of the Zoological Society of London, Ufologist, Cryptozoologist, Counter-espionage Agent for British Naval Intelligence. Ivan Sanderson was a very well educated man with a yearning to always learn, and discover more.

Sanderson attended Eton College, and also earned a BA (with Honours) from Cambridge University in Zoology, and later would also earn himself MA degrees in Botany and Ethnology. (Ethnology is the branch of anthropology that compares and analyses the characteristics of different peoples and the relationship between them )

Sanderson became known worldwide after an encounter with “Kongamato” (see link at bottom of page) a bat described “As The Granddaddy of all bats” which lives in Africa. The creature is described by many locals as looking like the dinosaur “Pterosaurs”.

Sanderson's evidence is held in high regard due to the nature of his training and education, but this encounter and many other encounters with the bat-like monster were (and probably still are ) very controversial at the time, with many people believing the creature to be a myth or hoax.

Here's Sanderson’s description of the event as quoted on Wikipedia:

Sanderson: "Then I let out a shout also and instantly bobbed down under the water, because, coming straight at me only a few feet above the water was a black thing the size of an eagle. I had only a glimpse of its face, yet that was quite sufficient, for its lower jaw hung open and bore a semicircle of pointed white teeth set about their own width apart from each other. When I emerged, it was gone. ... And just before it became too dark to see, it came again, hurtling back down the river, its teeth chattering, the air "shss-shssing" as it was cleft by the great, black, Dracula-like wings."

Sanderson was well known for his epic expeditions into tropical areas in the 1920s and 1930's, writing about his travels and findings, animals and nature in general, earning him a great deal of

respect from the general public. A tragedy occurred though, in 1925 Sanderson was with his parents in Kenya where they had travelled to work with a film crew, Ivan's Father was killed by a Rhinoceros, the whole event being caught on camera.

Ivan Sanderson was well known in the 1960s and 1970s for his radio interviews in the USA, where he had eventually emigrated too, choosing New Jersey as his new home.

Ivan Sanderson Founded the Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained (SITU) in 1967. SITU was a non-profit organisation that investigated strange phenomena ignored by mainstream science.

The Sanderson family were also large volume Whiskey manufacturers

He died of cancer at his New Jersey residence in 1973.

The Cooper Family Ghost Photo

The Cooper Family Ghost Photo

This photo is doing the rounds again at the moment on paranormal sites and social media, garnering attention and a lot of theories.

The stories circulating vary, but the gist of the story is the Cooper family, from Texas USA, posed for a portrait, and when the photo was developed, the strange “falling body” of a man was seen in the photo.
Some variations of the story suggest the family knew there was a body upstairs, and it fell through as the photographer snapped the photo. Another suggestion is that there is no reaction from the family as the body was there the whole time and they knew, posing, hence why no reaction and no-one looking at the body.
The origin of the story is murky at best, with the “Cooper” family only be attached approximately in 2007. Previous incarnations of the photo don’t suggest the Cooper family origin story.

The most plausible explanation for this photo is that it is a fake. The photo could be a double exposure, and the film itself has been turned upside down to create the 'ghost', or it is a recent photoshopped photo made to look older.

Whatever the case may be – it is still a creepy photo!

What do you think, real or fake?

The Death of Elisa Lam

The Death of Elisa Lam

In February 2013, a 21-year-old Canadian tourist, Elisa Lam, was found dead, floating in the water supply tank on top of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles.

Ms Lam was visiting Los Angeles from Vancouver, Canada. She was last seen on January 31st in “The Last Bookshop” a small store not far from the hotel. Ms Lam was in the shop buying books and records for her family back in Canada, and from the conversation she had with the store clerk, it was obvious Ms Lam was planning on travelling further around the USA in coming months.

Guests at the Cecil hotel began complaining early in February 2013 about the drinking water in the hotel being “dark” or “black”, tasting and smelling funny, and about the lack of water pressure.
On February 19th, the Cecil Hotel sent a maintenance worker into the rooftop tanks to find out where the problem originated.
The worker came across the decomposing body of a naked young woman in a tank, Elisa Lam.

Things then got strange.

The Hotel issued a statement to all its guests to vacate the premises immediately. Which they did, some were interviewed on their way out of the building, saying they thought the water had tasted sickly sweet and was often black, but if you left the tap running long enough, it would turn clear and was drinkable.
Tests were down to establish that no bacteria had grown within the water tank, which is highly unusual considering the number of bacteria inside a decomposing body in a dark cold water environment.
The County stated that the Chlorine pumped through the water system stopped the bacteria growing...but it didn’t stop the black liquid when the taps turned on

Even more bizarre was a short security video that surfaced of Elisa in a hotel elevator acting erratically. In the video Ms Lam can clearly be seen hiding from someone, then talking animatedly to someone of the camera, reacting as though someone had stepped inside the elevator with her, and also pushing all the elevator buttons, before, she suddenly moves away from the elevator and isn't seen again,
Whom, or what was she reacting too?

The LAPD and Coroners office were very reluctant to release finding on Ms Lam's body and toxicology reports, stalling the media at every opportunity, until an almost total media blackout occurred.
The Coroner then stated the autopsy reports would be released on May 16th, only to stall again until June. Then a statement was made saying that Ms Lam's death had been accidental and that no drugs of any kind showed up in her toxicology report, and that “Bipolar” disorder was the culprit.

Ms Lam was found with no drugs in her system.
Ms Lam passed through numerous locked doors and a security-alarmed section of the Cecil Hotel
Ms Lam was found naked.
Ms Lam had no signs of trauma, or struggle on her body.

Ms Lam had suffered from depression previously, as stated on her blog - http://etherfields.blogspot.hk/ - and it is very possible that her depression, that became bipolar led her to a state of schizophrenic hallucination, which in turn led her to the act in the erratic way the video footage shows...but things get a little weirder.

A YouTube user recently claimed that the Elisa Lam CCTV footage had been slowed down and possibly edited. He makes a case that the tape was tampered with and that we have not yet seen the full extent of Elisa Lam’s final video appearance.
Another twist that has come forth to the case is that of a “False Flag” attack of biological weaponry that happened at the same time Ms Lam was found dead. An outbreak of Tuberculosis, reportedly affecting 4, 500 people hit Los Angeles, the most bizarre thing though, the TB test used to diagnose patients during this outbreak was known as LAM ELISA TEST ( http://www.cli-online.com/featured-articles/lam-antigen-testing-an-effective-rule-in-test-for-tbhiv-co-infection/)

Also, the Cecil Hotel was the very hotel that serial killer Richard Ramirez, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Ramirez) better known as “The Night Stalker” (1985) and lesser-known Austrian killer Jack Unterwager (1991) had lived in while committing atrocities across Los Angeles.
It was also the last place that Elizabeth Short, aka “The Black Dahlia” was seen before her vicious and brutal murder in 1947

With all the twists and turns, co-incidents, cover-up and false lag allegations, one thing remains constant through the whole story, Elisa Lam lost her life. Whether it was drugs, a conspiracy, mental illness, possession from ghosts or demons, Ms Lam suffered a horrible end to a very young life. May she find peace where ever she is now.

After these horrific events, the Cecil Hotel was rebranded “Stay on Main” and is considered one of the most haunted hotels in Los Angeles.

Kristen Luman: Ghost Mine

Kristen Lumen

One woman in a haunted gold mine, with a bunch of gruff looking blokes, explosives and ghosts, who would've thought that would be a Television show concept that production companies would go for?
Whoever pitched the idea, and made it happen, Bravo to you, because, as it turned out, the show was immensely popular among the paranormal show viewing audiences, and introduced a new female lead, that would inspire many young women to look towards paranormal investigation as a hobby, a way of life, or a profession.
Kristen Lumen, the flame-haired investigator of Ghost Mine, earned herself a BA in Psychology from Portland State University, from which she focused her studies on Paranormal Psychology and Human Development.
She has also worked as a model and an actress before landing the role on Ghost Mine

In an interview with Russell Dickson of “News Blaze” (of which you can read the entire interview via the link at the bottom of the page), Kristen speaks of her interest in the paranormal as a child and young girl.

Kristen Lumen: “I was just really fascinated as a child. I was the little girl at the slumber parties trying to convince the other girls to play with Ouija boards and hold séances. I constantly read books about the paranormal to the point of worrying my Mom. I first started doing investigations in college while taking a parapsychology course”
Kristen studied at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute where she became a certified hypnotherapist and also became a member of the American Hypnosis Association, from these beginnings she went on to study Pain Management and Energy Healing. Kristen is also a strong believer in the power of thought and belief, that through belief, one can achieve what they desire (Known as the Eriksonian school of thought)

Chasey Ray McKnight: Tennessee Wraith Chasers

Chasey Ray McKnight

In 2013 a new show hit the airwaves, “Ghostland Tennessee” which featured paranormal investigators from the Tennessee Wraith Chasers team, Doogie, Chasey, Ashley, Brannon, Porter, Chris, and Bourbon the dog!

In August of 2011 Sumner County native, Chasey Ray McKnight joined Tennessee Wraith Chasers team as an investigator
Chasey was born in August of 1981, and hails from Sumner County, Tennessee, A southern state of America which, during the civil war with the Union, supplied more soldiers to the war effort for the Confederate Army, and the Union army than any other state, which is odd when you think about it, brother fighting brother?
Could this also be a small part of why Tennessee is such a haunted place?

Chasey was raised a Baptist, born in Gallatin Tennesee, and raised in Castalian Springs, he has served in various roles in his local community, including a volunteer firefighter and a local EMS first.
Chasey experienced paranormal phenomena when his Mother was ill, his intrigue and curiosity led him to investigate further into what he felt and saw, this, in turn, led him to become an investigator and satisfy his curiosity.

New experiences whilst investigating with the team have kept Chasey energised and devoted to the paranormal investigation, always thinking of new ways to approach how they team investigates, Chasey is somewhat of an innovator.

Although he has experienced much, Chasey still remains sceptical about a lot of things, which leads to his interpretation of “evidence being a little different to others in the field, being particularly critical of his own findings (in which we have something in common)

Chasey's greatest fear is his own mortality, what truly waits for us at the end

I am lucky enough to have spoken online to Chasey and Doogie from TWC, and my wife and I proudly wear our TWC merch while we are out and about.

Dustin Pari

Dustin Pari

Dustin Pari – The “Paranormal Rock Star”, many of you know him from his appearances on Ghost Hunters International
Dustin was born in July 1977 in Providence, Rhode Island, USA and was interested in the paranormal as a child, and began investigating in his early teens at local hot-spots with his best friends.
Nowadays he is a Father of three children, works a day job, is happily married, writes blogs, makes public appearances, does public speaking circuits, plays Guitar hero and watches cartoons....and still ghost hunts!
Dustin has appeared on many Television shows, including Ghost Hunters from 2005-2010, Ghost Hunters International from 2008 – 2010, Ghost Hunters Academy from 2009-2010 (via Archive Footage of previous shows on GH and GHI), The Monster Hunter in 2009, and most recently on a few episodes of “Reporter Chicks” in 2010-2011.
Dustin also co-wrote a book with fellow cast member, Barry Fitzgerald entitled “The Complete Approach”, which went into great detail about how to investigate for the paranormal.
Dustin is an intriguing fellow, his approach to the paranormal is somewhat different to most in the field, he feels he has nothing to prove to himself, but ghost hunts to prove to others that the spirit world is very real. In an interesting quote from a 2011 article, Dustin States the following:
"I don't believe in ghosts at all. I think it seems laughable, but I do recognize the fact that there is a spirit world around us and that after we pass away, regardless of what religious affiliations you may or may not have, there's energy inside us and there's a soul inside us, and it seems to go somewhere." (see link below to read more)
Dustin's own website reinforces his belief – A quote from Dustin's website:
As to why I am still pursuing this field today--well, I am a very spiritual individual and I am constantly looking for proof of the afterlife, not for myself but for others.
If nothing more than to show nonbelievers that there is something more out there to consider and that maybe- we can all live in this life, just being a little nicer to each other.”

Dustin Pari already has a legacy in paranormal research that many would envy, travelling the world to investigate the paranormal, learning, researching, exploring, but at the end of the day, he is a family man, a humble, genuine nice guy who has a passion for spirituality and helping others, something many paranormal investigators in the modern paranormal community seemed to have brushed aside, putting themselves and their teams first, before the very people they are there to help.

Keith Age - The Rock N Roll Ghost Hunter

Keith Age

Founder of Louisville Ghost Hunters Society, many of you know my next biography subject from his time spent with The Booth Brothers, Mr Keith Age.
Keith is a very well respected paranormal investigator throughout the world, not just the USA, his knowledge and approach is admired by many, as is his documentaries and other productions, like the Mid-South Paranormal Convention which has attracted the likes of Robb Demarest, Joe Chin, The Booth Brothers, Chris Fleming, Dustin Pari, Mark and Debby Constantino and many other well known international paranormal investigators – such respect is hard earned.

What got Keith, “The Rock N Roll Ghosthunter” started in the world of paranormal investigation?
In an interview with Amy Hansford for the examiner ( read the interview here: http://www.examiner.com/article/keith-age-the-rock-n-roll-ghost-hunter )

Keith Age: "I had just came off the road playing music and had met this girl who wouldn’t take me to meet her Mom and Dad, I thought it was because of the Rock-n-Roll look I had, but it was actually because they had a ghost and it didn’t like her boyfriends. I finally got to go over to her house for a party and where we were sitting on the couch you could see down the hallway and see our reflection in the mirror down the hallway. Something kept breaking our reflection, and I went down there several times but couldn’t find anything or anyone that would have caused it. So for the rest of the night, I kept teasing my girlfriend about the “big bad ghost, I didn’t believe in it, wasn’t scared of it and just calling it out in general. At the end of the night as we were standing inside, I went to kiss her goodnight, and felt a pressure on my left arm and then the next thing I new I was flying through the front door and landed about six feet on the front lawn, and I remember thinking as I was laying there, “That was so cool”."

Amongst making documentaries,. Hosting the TV show “Spooked” on Syfy channel, paranormal conventions and investigations, Keith has also found time to write a book, titled “ Out Of The Dark”, which I am sure will be the first of many.
