PI: Past & Present - Carlo J Vella

 Carlo J Vella

Today we travel to Spain to meet Carlo from the Paranormal Research Team Spain. Carlo has had a long time interest in paranormal subjects, even as a child, and spent much of his time reading horror novels and watching horror movies, with a particular interest in “ghost” movies.

Carlo had many strange occurrences happen during childhood, some of which Carlo, in retrospect, put down to an over imaginative mind and too much stimulation from books and television.

A combination of curiosity, imagination, paranormal interests and a love of research and exploration has led Carlo into the exciting, and wonderful world of paranormal investigation, and led him to found his team “Paranormal Research Team Spain”
Although Carlo doesn't consider himself a psychic, he can sometimes read into what happened in the area when he feels there is residual energy

In Spain, there is a village named “Zaragoza”, which was destroyed in the Spanish civil war, is one of Carlo's favourite places to investigate:
Carlo: “So many people died and there is something hauntingly beautiful and eerie about the place”

Carlo, like many investigators worldwide, uses a confidentiality clause in his contracts to investigate homes and public locations, and because of this clause, he is bound not to tell us much of anything about some of the other locations his team has investigated, for keeping his word, and not speaking, I think Carlo should be applauded, many many teams are too eager to brag about their locations, with “We were here first” and other such lines, when in reality, it doesn't really matter who went in first, only that the investigation was done, with respect to the clients, and to the spirits.

I asked Carlo “ Has anything unexplainable or paranormal ever happened on an investigation that you wish to share?”
Carlo “A few times I felt pains, sometimes sharp pains in my back or legs when visiting an old cathedral. Before the cathedral was built a battle took place on that spot. Many were wounded, shot, knifed etc. After a minute the pain was gone.”

Carlo also told me a little about some evidence his team captured whilst visiting Malta
Carlo “ We were in Malta and captured an image of a Turkish man. After some long hours of research, we did come across a story that tells of a Turkish man who used to kidnap women from the village, rape and kill them and toss their bodies into the ocean.”

Carlo is also an accomplished author and English teacher in Spain

P.I. Past & Present: Reverend Canon John S Pearce-Higgins

Reverend Canon John S Pearce-Higgins
1905–1985

Canon Pearce-Higgins was Canon Residentiary and Vice-provost of Southwark Cathedral in Great Britain until his retirement Emeritus in 1971. He is a founding member of the Churches Fellowship for Psychical and Spiritual Studies in the United Kingdom, which is a sister organisation to the “Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship” in Pennsylvania USA.

Canon Pearce -Higgins was known internationally for his unique experiences, research, lectures and writings on psychic phenomena, particularly as it relates to religious faith.
In addition to television broadcasts, Higgins-Pearce was also widely known for his lectures at colleges and schools in England on haunted houses and other paranormal topics.
Rev Pearce-Higgins was a practising exorcist, licensed by the Bishop of Southwark, he was said to be a quietly charismatic man, who went about his business with an air of “authenticity” to his beliefs.
He did a great deal of seminal work on multiple personality disorders and “possessions”, but was of the opinion that the overwhelming majority of “possessions” were underlying medically treatable psychosis.
Although he was a minister, Rev Pearce Higgins was also an avid paranormal investigator, and sometimes worked with the greats, such as Peter Underwood. He investigated a number of places including pubs such as the “Three Tuns Inn”  in Bungay, Suffolk, and place once known as “The Horns” on Crucifix street, Southwark. (http://goo.gl/maps/ScvQm )

Canon Pearce -Higgins preferred not to use the title of exorcist, he often said his religious service bore no relation to other Christian exorcisms, he didn’t ban spirits to hell as it was his belief that spirits needed as much counselling as the living victims who body they found themselves in, whether forcibly or by accident.
He believed, wholeheartedly, that most possessions were purely by accident, that people passing over often got confused by what was happening to them, or scared and clung to life.
He also believed that there were many more hauntings and haunted people around than anyone would even care to consider.
Pearce-Higgins wrote a ritual to release earth-bound spirits, that would send them to Heaven, or the “White-Light”, a process he termed “Soothing” as he didn’t like the title of exorcism (as stated previously).
His “soothing” used a combination of Anglican Liturgy and special prayers.
Southwark Cathedral

The following exchange was recorded between Bishop James Pikes friend, Canon John D Pearce-Higgins and the alleged spirit of Bishop Pike, supposedly after his death in an Israeli desert in 1969, Bishop Pike would speak through medium Ena Twigg (psychic channeller) after being asked questions by Pearce-Higgins

Pike: Oh God Help me...help me, please help me
Canon: Where are you?... God bless you.
Pike: I'm lost...i'm lost..help me- I'm lost...God help me
Canon: On Earth – or somewhere else?
Pike: I'm, in a nowhere, John.
Canon: Are you dead?
Pike: Dead...Yes, I'm nowhere
Canon: Your body is dead...your body is dead
Pike: and I don't belong anywhere, do I?
Canon: Oh yes you do...my dear boy
Pike: where, where, where is this?
Canon: You belong in the upper regions. You're just in the mists right now that we often go to into for some time when we pass over, so I understand...You have your faith in God.
Pike: but this mist...
Canon: This is what they call the River of Death...It's sort of a temporary condition we go through I believe...
Pike (Angrily) They shouldn't have done that to me!
Canon: I think everyone has it...Have you seen anyone you know or are you alone still?
Pike: No, not alone
Canon: Your friends...
Pike: many people here but I can't see anyone

Reverend Canon John S Pearce-Higgins was truly an inspiring and interesting man who believed that God and the Supernatural went hand in hand, although barely remembered in this day and age, I hope that just a few of you go away and research himself yourself, so that his memory and actions can live on through the next generation of spirit-researchers.

Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present: Anne Rzechowicz & ESP

Anne Rzechowicz
& the Eastern States Paranormal Team

Today we visit Newcastle, New South Wales based Eastern States Paranormal Co-founder, Lead Investigator and Media Officer, Anne Rzechowicz.
Anne had a number of unexplained events happen in her childhood that caused her to develop a fear of paranormal related phenomena. People during her younger years often believed her to be a psychic, although she was not, and due to her fear if she actually did have any psychic ability, she would have suppressed it rather than explored it further.
Fear controlled her social interactions when it came to playing games as a teenager that had paranormal themes, Anne often asked herself the question that, if she did have psychic ability, would it open a door she had no control over?

Anne's courage won out in the end and rather than be controlled by fear, she decided to learn about the paranormal instead and educate herself towards overcoming what she was afraid.
Knowledge is Power over fear. In her younger years Anne remembers a very real “creature” living under her bed at her Grandparents place that would make the bed move, and as a teen, being able to sense, sometimes “see” things that she could not explain, but since educating herself and becoming a Paranormal Investigator, Anne now questions her experiences with a sense of logic that often makes her question what she has seen or felt.

Anne has also, through becoming a paranormal investigator reached out to others to educate and help them overcome their own fears and not assume that just because they are told something is one way, that it actually is that way – always question every experience.

Anne and the ESP team have been very grateful and appreciative to be granted permission to officially investigate the “Q-station” (Quarantine Station) at Manly in NSW a very well known haunted location in Australia.
The team had unlimited access to all the buildings on site other than the accommodation buildings. They collected a large volume of data including photos of entities, EVPs that backed up what their psychic was sensing, and a CCTV camera moving of its own volition!
Other places the team have found incredible evidence are Monte Cristo Homestead at Junee NSW where the team captured a photograph of an almost full bodied apparition (missing just the head), and some EVPS.

Sandgate Cemetery where Anne says the team has captured many EVPS and some activity via a REM pod at
Maitland Gaol.
Anne and the team have caught a great deal of evidence here, including EVPs, seeing “Shadow People”, hearing disembodied voices and witnessing poltergeist activity.

It was in Maitland Gaol that Anne was investigating with fellow team member Dean, in the C-Wing. Dean opened a closed cell door and an exhale of breath was heard. Dean asked Anne if she heard it, and as he asked, a witches hat (the orange cones used on road works) flew into the door frame, from outside. It hit with a great deal of force and landed at Anne's feet.

Anne said “very funny”, thinking someone was playing a practical joke on them, but no-one came through the door. When it came to reviewing of Anne's voice recorder she found you could hear the sound of the witches hat being picked up, and of it hitting the wall, but no footsteps before or after indicating a person had come through the door and thrown the object.
Anne and Dean examined the area after the event and can still not logically explain what happened.
Anne has told me that her favourite piece of evidence is the aforementioned apparition photo from Monte Christo, of which Anne describes how it may have come to be:
Anne: ”Funnily, I was lucky enough on this investigation (Monte Christo)to be able to play on the piano a piece of music written by the Crawleys Daughter (Former Owners child) which the current owners had recently discovered. It was an out of tune broken piano and I was sight reading in the dark..but I got through it.
Nothing happened during the playing (video is available) but as a “tongue in cheek” at the end, I asked if the Crawleys liked my playing, I would be honoured if I could have a full figured apparition in a photo, not knowing that I'd already caught one on my camera earlier...leading to the whole argument of “Is time linear?”
Anne loves her low light Nikon P100 camera but also her digital voice recorder, because “sometimes you catch things on that, that is really truly unexplainable!”
Anne also told me “Co-Founder and Core Team Member Robert has had some amazing personal experiences too. His most memorable would be having a spirit draw a circle on his back. He could actually feel it being traced!”
“Rob is also the master of EVPS. He hears them in the white noise where most would miss it. He has a huge collection now of astounding recordings”

Other team members include Garth, who is the most recent addition to the team. Garth came to ESP as a client, but it was obvious to Rob and Anne that he had a gift, He was invited to join the ESP team on a social investigation night, and proved he had a natural ability.
Garth has now been with the team for 12months, training and learning, and has recently become a case manager, as a gifted psychic, who is still learning, he adds another aspect to the team and keeps the team smiling on those long and gruelling investigations

There are members to the ESP team, and hopefully in the coming months we may interview more of them here for our blog, Dean is the teams Lead Psychic, who works a flight attendant during the day, jet-setting across the globe.
Dean, and also two other team members, Caz and Lauren, work as Ghost Tour guides at Sydney's Q-Station, of which Dean has been quietly working towards bringing Psychic Chip Coffee to Q-Station for a night of psychic entertainment

Eastern States Paranormal have recently become the official Paranormal Investigation team of The Manly Q-Station, and will be conducting workshops and tours very soon (please visit their facebook page for updates)
Rob's business Ghost Shack is also running "Paranormal Experience" nights... it's not a tour, its information about how to be a paranormal investigator and how to use the equipment...not just cheap thrills and ghost stories!
Anne & Chip Coffey

The most recent one at Maitland Gaol has been an outstanding success with teams like WSPR, ESP and VALIDATE sharing their knowledge and leading experiments in the paranormal.

They are also keeping very busy with events through “Ghost Shack”, a paranormal equipment retailer run by ESP team member Robert, and through various investigations, and other planning for other upcoming events.
Eastern States Paranormal has appeared on The “Ghosts of Oz” Radio show and “Immortal Truth” & “Naked Zombie” internet podcast shows.
You can find ESP online at www.easternstatesparanormal.com.au or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/easternstates.paranormal

Although ESP are only just celebrating their first birthday, this is a team that has delved head first into their work and have created a nice niche for themselves in a State that is often overshadowed by some of the more media savvy teams that dominate the NSW paranormal landscape.
They have proven to be excellent at what they do and enthusiastic at learning about different kinds of paranormal aspects as well as educating the public about what they are passionate about.

Many thanks to Anne and the entire Eastern States Paranormal Team for allowing us some insight into their life, their team and their passion.

Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present: Konstantīns Raudive

Konstantīns Raudive

The man who made EVP research famous, Konstantin Raudive, was already somewhat famous himself at the time of his paranormal research studies, studying philosophy and psychology under Carl Jung and writing numerous philosophical books that were always well received by his peers.

Raudive was born in Latvia but found himself in exile after the Soviets took back Latvia during World War 2. He moved to Sweden and taught at The University of Uppsala.

In 1964 he read Friedrich Jurgenson's book “Voices from Space” and arranged to meet the paranormal investigator.
Raudive had always had an interest in the paranormal and studied parapsychology and supernatural literature whenever he could.

The meeting with Jurgenson led Raudive into a subject which would become his passion, and for which he would become famous worldwide for, Electronic Voice Phenomena.

For three months he experimented tirelessly with what he had learned and got nothing, then one day, he finally recorded a voice from an unknown source. His elation at finally making contact re-invigorated him and led him to experiment with different ways to record and conduct EVP sessions, thus becoming an EVP pioneer in the process.
As Raudive experimented, he developed new ways of recording spirit voices and tried many different things, including crystal radio sets, which he used in his early work extensively.

Soon he developed his own custom devices to help with clearer recordings, one of which, now known as the “Raudive Diode” uses Germanium in a circuit which acts as a microphone receiver.
Raudive conducted most of his experiments in controlled scientific conditions, using strict protocols. He was monitored by other scientists whilst doing his experiments, which were generally 18 minute EVP sessions.
His equipment had devices on them that would block radio and television signals, essentially a Faraday cage. Like most sessions, no voices were heard during the recording, but on playback, to the amazement of all involved, voices could be heard clearly, including Raudives own deceased sister, who said her name “Tekle” and Raudives nickname, “Kosti”

In the last ten years of his life Raudive collected around 100,00 audiotapes of “spirit” voices, it is claimed over 400 people became involved with his research and each and every one of them heard the voices recorded.
In 1968 Raudive published a book titled “ Unhörbares wird hörbar"- or “What Is Inaudible becomes Audible”, which has also been published in English as “Breakthrough”, He went on to write two more books before his death in 1974.
Raudive was a pioneer of early EVP work and set some of the standards for how the work should be conducted today.

Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present: Gunter Borremans

    Gunter BorremansParanormal Investigation Team Belgium

This week we visit the Kingdom of Belgium, and the city of Turnhout in Flemish province of Antwerp to meet Gunter Borremans of Paranormal Investigation Team Belgium.
Gunter was born in Turnhout and still resides in the city, the paranormal has always been an of interest too him, but became more predominant in his life after events in a local bar he owned in the city, where he was directly involved in a number of paranormal incidences. This, in turn, led him to explore further and become involved in paranormal investigation as a hobby.
At the hotel he owned strange things would happen, glasses would fall from their place in shelves, footsteps would be heard in hallways when no-one else was present in the pub, and disembodied voices would be heard by Gunter and staff after closing time.

Gunter started his team with friends that held a similar interest, originally the team was known as “Paranormal Investigation Team Turnhout” but later became “Paranormal Investigation Team Belgium” when P.I.T.T. Merged with another local paranormal investigation team.

P.I.T.B. Likes to keep most cases confidential, and honours their contract to private homes and business that do not wish to be named, however, sometimes they take on cases in public places that they can make public, but even then, they usually do not disclose the name or address of the place, preferring to keep it secret to stop thrillseekers that view their page and then go to the location to cause damage.
P.I.T.B. Do, however, have some photo's on their facebook page and website (which is currently not available for public viewing due to updating of content).

    Team members in P.I.T.B. Include:
Jurgen Erken: lead investigator - founder
Gunter Borremans: lead investigator - founder

    Michiel Willems: tech-manager - investigator
Lies Vriens: case manager - investigator

Thimo Braker: investigator - tech manager
Chris Helsen: investigator - science advisor
    Kristina Hendrickx: investigator in training
    and Raffael Raven.
