Religious Protection - Part Three - Islamic

Religious Protection
(Islamic)

In keeping with our tradition of unity, fairness and equality, we are adding prayers and scriptures from religions across the globe. We know many Islamic ghost hunters around the world and are often asked by them about spiritual protection when ghost hunting.

It is not our intention to offend anyone of any religion. race or creed, so, if you are offended by what we are presenting on this page, please move on to another.

Islam

Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a text considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God (Arabic: الله‎ Allāh), and by the teachings and normative example (called the Sunnah and composed of Hadith) of Muhammad, considered by them to be the last prophet of God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim.

Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and the purpose of existence is to love and serve God. Muslims also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed at many times and places before, including through Abraham, Moses and Jesus, whom they consider prophets.

They maintain that previous messages and revelations have been partially changed or corrupted over time, but consider the Qur'an to be both the unaltered and the final revelation of God. Religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are basic concepts and obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, providing guidance on multifarious topics from banking and welfare, to warfare and the environment.

" Salah & Du'a "

"Salah" is an Arabic word whose basic meaning is "bowing, homage, worship. prayer". In its English usage, the reference of the word is almost always confined to the Muslim formal, obligatory worship.

Translating salah as "prayer" is not usually considered precise enough, as "prayer" can indicate several different ways of relating to God; personal prayer or supplication is called duʿāʾ (literally "call") in Islamic usage.

Muslims themselves use several terms to refer to salah depending on their language or culture. In many parts of the world, including many non-Arab countries such as Indonesia, the Arabic term salah is used. The other major term is the Persian word namāz (نماز), used by speakers of the Indo-Iranian languages (e.g., Persian) Turkish and Bosnian.

Du’a in Arabic means call, request, supplication or prayer.

The Holy Prophet said: To keep the devils at bay and to destroy the effects of magic recite verses 54 to 56 of Al Araf.

INNA RABBAKUMULLAAHUL LAD'EE KHALAQAS SAMAAWAATI WAL ARZ'A FEE SITTATI AYYAAMIN THUMAS-TAWAA A'LAL A'RSH YUGHSHIL LAYLAN NAHAARA YAT'LUBUHOO H'ATHEETHAW WASH SHAMSA WAL QAMARA WAN NAJOOMA MUSAKHKHARAATIM BI AMRIH ALAA LAHUL KHALQU WAL AMR

TABAARAKALLAAHU RABBUL A'ALAMEEN UD-O'O RABBAKUM TAZ'ARRU-A'W WA KHUFYAH INNAHOO LAA YUH'IBBUL MU'TADEEN WA LAA TUFSIDOO FIL ARZ'I BA-DA IS'LAAH'IHAA WAD-O-OHU KHAWFAW WA T'AMA-A'A INNA RAH'MATALLAAHI QAREEBUM MINAL MUH'SINEEN

[Verily your Lord is Allah who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself on the throne. He draws the night as a veil over the day, which pursues it incessantly; and made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient to His command. Verily, His is the creation and the command. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the worlds. Call on your Lord humbly and in secret. Verily Allah does not love the transgressors. And do not make mischief in the earth after it has been reformed, and call on Him fearing (His wrath) and longing (his mercy). Verily the mercy of Allah is near to those who do good]

(i) To render null and void the intensity and evil effects of any kind of witchcraft and evil eye recite 121 times the last part of verse 87 of al Anbiya, after Fajr salat for 40 days.

Recite salawat 15 times then say : LAA ILAAHA ILLAAA ANTA SUBH'AANAKA INNEE KUNTU MINAZ'Z AALIMEEN

(ii) To overcome any apparently impossible to manage difficulty recite the above-noted verse as directed in (i) and also 730 times after praying a 2 rak-at salat after midnight with the following acts of self-discipline.

  1.  Do not eat animal meat
  2. Eat any halaal (lawful) food purchased by halal (lawfully earned) money
  3. Give alms to the poor.

To render null and void the evil effects of an evil eye recite the following du-a'a

BISMISLLAAHI ARQEEKA/ARQEEKI MIN KULLI SHAY-IN YOO-D'EEKA/YOO - D'EEKI MIN KULLI SHAY-IN WA A'YNIN WA NAFSIN WA H'AASIDIN ALLAAHU YASHFEEKA / YASHFEEKI BISMILLAAHI ARQEEKA / ARQEEKI ALLAAHU AKBARU WA JALLA JALAALUHOO

(Note: Say 'Ka" if the person, for whom you are praying, is a male or "Ki" if female.
[In the name of Allah I give you in protection (of Allah) from everything that pains you, from everything and the (evil) eye, self-indulgence and the jealous. In the name of Allah I give you in protection (of Allah), Allah is the greatest, and His might is the mightiest]

TAWID OF IMAM HASAN BIN ALI

Whosoever recites the following prayer after every obligatory salat, or keeps its written text on the body, inshallah, he, his family and property will remain safe under the divine protection.

U-E'EDU NAFSEE WA D'URRIYYATEE WA AHLA BAYTEE WA MAALEE BIKALIMATILLAAHIT
TAAAMMATI MIN KULLI SHAYT'AANIN WA HAAMMATIN WA MIN KULLI A'YNIN LAAMMATIN

[I put myself, my children, my family, my property under (Allah's protection )

in the name of Allah's perfected words, from all devils, poisonous animals, and from every evil eye.]

When entering the cemetery

"Oh inmates of the graves, Salaam on you. Allah forgives us and you all. You left first and we will be coming later".

Or

"Oh Muslims residing here, salaams on you, by the will of Allah we will also be coming to you. We seek safety for us and you".

(Muslim)

Religious Protection: Part Two - Christianity

Religious Protection(Christianity)

This page is a continuation from the previous "religious protection " page found here - "Religious Protection".
I recently asked in the forums of "Christian Cryptozoology and Paranormal Study Group", on Facebook, if there were more Christian prayers or scriptures I could share with you, constant reader, that may aid you in your need for spiritual protection against dark entities brought forth whilst investigating.
Pastor Robin Swope, "The Paranormal Pastor" was forthcoming with some suggested reading, so I decided to add a new page to the website with the good Pastors suggestions.
Soon, I will be asking for religious protection prayers, or scriptures, from other religions to add to our collection here on Eidolon Paranormal

Until then, stay safe!
 - Allen

1 John 4:4

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

You are from God, children, and you have conquered them because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world
4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them.
The saints had overcome these false prophets, but they were of God,
because greater is he that is in you, and the Spirit in them was mightier
than he that is in the world, than the evil spirit, that of the prince of the world,
which was in the false prophets.

Ephesians 1:19 - 23
 (New Living Translation)
19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
 Ephesians 1:19- 23
(Common English Bible Translation)
19 and what is the overwhelming greatness of God’s power that is working among us believers. This power is conferred by the energy of God’s powerful strength. 20 God’s power was at work in Christ when God raised him from the dead and sat him at God’s right side in the heavens, 21 far above every ruler and authority and power and angelic power, any power that might be named not only now but in the future. 22 God put everything under Christ’s feet and made him head of everything in the church, 23 which is his body. His body, the church, is the fullness of Christ, who fills everything in every way.

Romans 8:31-39

Romans 8:31-39

31 What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
32He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? 33Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
34Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.*
35Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36As it is written,
‘For your sake, we are being killed all day long;
we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.’
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Religious Protection - Part One

Religious Protection

Here we are offering information on Religious and Spiritual protection remedies used on ghost hunt expeditions, or in your own home.
We do not vouch for the validity of any of the protection suggestions having basis in scientific fact, or actually working - We offer them here purely for entertainment value and will not be held responsible for any resulting outcome, whether good or bad.
These will not be in depth philosophical statements on religion, or why and how faith works. The information on this page is a brief summary of some of the religious and spiritual prayers that we have come across in our time working in the paranormal community.

Prayers to Saints

Many paranormal teams offer prayers to God, Jesus or Saints before and after an investigation. You may have seen such noted investigators as the team from "Paranormal State" offering such prayers before each and every investigation.
Here are some of the prayers we have come across used by investigators

Short Prayer for Protection
The light of God surrounds us,
The love of God enfolds us,
The power of God protects us,
The presence of God watches over us,
Wherever we are, God is,
And where God is, all is well.
St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, St. John,
Like unto the prophet Jonas, as a type of Christ,
Who was guarded for three days and
Three nights in the belly of a whale,
Thus shall the Almighty God,
As a Father, guard and protect me from all evil.

Protect my Journey
In the name of God I go on this journey.
May God the Father be with me,
God the Son protect me, and
God the Holy Ghost be by my side.
Whoever is stronger than these three persons
May approach my body and my life; yet
Whoso is not stronger than these three
Would much better let me be!
Prayer for Protection Against Curses, Harm, Accidents
Lord Jesus,
I ask You to "protect" our Family (whom I mention by name) from sickness,
from all harm and from accidents.
If any of us has been subjected to any curses, hexes or spells,
I declare these curses, hexes or spells null and void in the name of Jesus Christ.
If any evil spirits have been sent against us,
I decommission you in the name of Jesus Christ and I send you to Jesus to deal with as He will.
Then, Lord, I ask You to send Your holy angels to guard and protect all of us.

Holy Water

Obtained from any Catholic church for a small donation, holy water is a well known religious symbol in the removal of possessions, it is also well known in the battle against vampires - how many vampire movies have you seen where they don't use it?

Once you have obtained your holy water, place it in a bowl small enough to carry - go to the entrance ways of your house and dip your fingers into the water - make a sign of the cross in the doorway.
Some people might add a prayer to this ritual, something like "Lord please protect this house " or " I banish all evil spirits from this house, in the name of The Lord, Jesus Christ"...
After doing the entrance doors, do all the doors and window in the house, the basement and attic if you have them as well or if you are not comfortable doing this yourself, you can ask your local Catholic priest to come and bless your house for you
Holy Water is a powerful spiritual armour.  St. Teresa of Avila, whose temptations were as terrible as anyone’s, has left us these wise words of counsel:
“I have found by experience that there is nothing from which the devils fly more quickly than from Holy Water.  They also fly from the Cross, but they return almost immediately.  Certainly, the power of Holy Water must be great; for my part, my soul feels particular comfort in taking it, and very generally a refreshment and interior delight which I cannot express.”
Long before St. Teresa of Avila, Holy Water was a sacramental in the Catholic Church.  Water, which as a symbol of purification held a high place in biblical times, has retained its rich symbolism.

Red Door

In Catholicism, the red door on a chapel symbolized the blood of Christ, and other martyrs, to signify that the ground beyond the door (inside the church) was holy, and a sanctuary from physical and spiritual evils.
In Ireland, front doors are painted red to ward-off ghosts and evil spirits.

St. Michael Prayer

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the Divine Power of God,
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls

Original - Prayer to St. Michael

“O Glorious Prince of the heavenly host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the terrible warfare that we are waging against the principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the evil spirits. Come to the aid of man, whom Almighty God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of Satan.

B009_StMichaelProfile.jpg - 51760 Bytes
“Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in Heaven. That cruel, ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.

“These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be.

“Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defence against the malicious power of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly find mercy in the sight of the Lord; and vanquishing the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.

V. Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.
R. The Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered the root of David.
V. Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.
R. As we have hoped in Thee.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray.
O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as supplicants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin Immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious St. Michael the Archangel, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all the other unclean spirits who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of souls. Amen.”

Alternative Protection

Alternative Protection

Here we are offering old superstitions, folk remedies and different ways to protect yourself on either, ghost hunt expeditions, or in your own home.
We do not vouch for the validity of any of the protection suggestions having basis in scientific fact, or actually working - We offer them here purely for entertainment value and will not be held responsible for any resulting outcome, whether good or bad.
We have only tested a few for ourselves and our outcomes have no scientific basis, just entertainment value, as we cannot get a ghost into a laboratory to see if this stuff actually works!

Shoes

When you go to bed at night, set out the shoes you'll wear in the morning. Place them at the foot of your bed, on the floor, with one shoe pointing one way, and the other shoe pointing the opposite way. According to folklore, the ghosts get so confused by this they leave after a few nights.

Garlic

Garlic: is a tried-and-true repellent for unpleasant spirits of all kinds. Hang one clove in each doorway and window where you need protection. A clove in your pocket can also be a good idea.
Also used to keep Vampires (and some women) away

Haematite

Wearing it, or even carrying a piece of this unusually heavy black stone, will absorb evil energy. This won't get rid of the ghost, just the negative effects of it.
For more info on other Crystals with potential benefits please visit the links below:
http://crystal-cure.com/protection.html
http://www.crystalsandjewelry.com/protection_stones.html

 Mirrors

Convex Mirrors: can be purchased from automotive stores. Use one for each haunted room. You'll need extra mirrors if your windows in the haunted room face more than one direction. For example, if your windows face North and East, you'll need two convex mirrors. You'll also need an extra convex mirror if your computer or TV is in a haunted room, and your back is to the door when you're looking at them. Select one window in a haunted room. Place the mirror discreetly in a corner, preferably behind a curtain. The mirror should face towards the outside of the house. When a ghost approaches your window from the outside, he sees his own distorted reflection and goes away. In haunted rooms where you sit with your back to the door, place the mirror so that you will see anyone (or anything) entering the room, without turning your head.

Flat Mirrors: Buy one for each room that is haunted. Place the mirror at eye level, inside the room that is haunted, against the door. The shiny side of the mirror should face the door itself, not you. Supposedly, the ghost looks through the door and sees his reflection in the mirror. This scares him away.

 Grain Counting

Sand, rice, split peas, etc.: Randomly toss rice, split peas, sand, salt, coffee beans or grounds, or anything small and granular, on your kitchen floor when you go to bed at night (if that's when the ghosts are most bothersome). According to folklore, the ghosts will pause to count the grains. They aren't very good at counting, so they have to start over again, repeatedly, or they forget the numbers.

One variation of this is to hang a vial or tube of sand in the window of any haunted room. Like the grains of rice on the kitchen floor, any entering ghost has to pause to count the sand granules. After a few nights, the ghost will give up and haunt somewhere else.

 Salt

Salt has to be the best known of all the protective minerals - it is used by Wiccans, pagans and many other spiritualists to cleanse and protect themselves, and their abodes.
According to legend, ghosts cannot cross a line of blessed salt so you can use it to keep a ghost in a particular area or create a circle of protection. Some people like to have their salt blessed too.

Sea Salt: According to legend, ghosts cannot cross a line of blessed salt so you can use it to keep a ghost in a particular area, or create a circle of protection. Some people like to have their salt blessed too.

Space Clearing

Sage, Salt, Crystal and Incense:
Sage sticks or incense can be used to clear the energy in houses - it is best to open all the doors and windows of the house, light the stick, and slowly go from room to room.
Take the stick into corners of rooms where energy builds up or becomes stagnant, in cupboards - anywhere and everywhere really...

Bells also work in the same manner, as do Tibetan singing bowls (which can be purchased cheaply from eBay)
A little more info about Bells:
http://www.spaceclearing.com/html/blog/2008/12/28/space-clearing-bells-and-harmony-balls/

 Hazelnuts

Really not sure on the history of this one - guess it would have to be from wherever hazelnuts originated from? (I wonder if Nutella works too?)
Hazelnuts have been used for protection since ancient times. Have a string of hazelnuts at every doorway into your house. You may want to bless the string in a ritual suited to your own religious beliefs or have your local priest bless it.

Herb Pouches

If you believe in folk magic, create a small pouch with several protection herbs in it. This could include- Five-Finger grass, cinnamon, and Echinacea. Along the same lines,

History Of The Gladstone Gaol

History Of The Gladstone Gaol

Written and Researched by
Karen Paynter

A famous and historic heritage-listed building, The Gladstone Gaol was built between 1879 - 1881 at the cost of  £21,640.
It was constructed from slate sourced from the Mintaro Quarry and transported to the Gladstone site by bullock drays.
While originally housing "inebriates" and "debtors", the Gladstone Gaol never housed its intended capacity. Reaching never more than approximately 86 prisoners between 1881 until the 1920s.
Although always intended as a Gaol for both Men and Women, the prisoners always remained totally separated, maintaining zero contact.
The Women were assigned to laundry duties, while the Men were to attend the market gardens outside of the prison grounds.

During the global conflict of World War II, The Gladstone Gaol was transformed into a South Australian Internment Camp for German and Italian internees. While interstate, another two gaols were also used, along with a hospital and a racecourse, eventually leading to the need of purpose-built internment Camps.
Following this, the gaol was used as a Military Detention Barracks.
Between 1943 and 1953 the Gaol remained unused until it became a corrective training facility for offenders aged 18 - 25 years old.

In 1955 the complex increased to include 125 cells following an extension.
Closing in 1975, as its facilities were deemed outdated, only to be reopened to the public in 1978

During the late months of 1979, The Gladstone Gaol became the "Gatunga Gaol" for the set of the prison movie "STIR".
While controversial at the time, "STIR" was inspired by and loosely based on the real-life prison riot at Bathurst Gaol of N.S.W. in 1974.
The "B" and "C" wings were used in the making of the movie.

Travellers and Tourists alike find the Gladstone Gaol a "must-see" destination of the Southern Flinders Ranges.

Investigation
Preparation
We prepared for our investigation by researching our location, getting maps and making a list of all known haunted areas within the Gaol, Karen and Allen then presented this material to the other teams at a team meeting held the weekend before the Gaol Investigation.
We decided on how to approach the investigation at the team meeting. It was decided each team would take a section of the Gaol, locations listed from A to E, and spend half an hour there investigating before moving into the next section. All the teams would then meet together and try some experiments Allen and David had designed, then return to the rotating roster of locations.

Pre Investigation
We started our walkthrough of the site with Kathy Webb, former caretaker of the Gaol. Kathy gave us vast amounts of insight into the operations of the gaol in its working life, and life in the gaol since its closure in 1975.  Kathy took us to all the locations reputed to be haunted and told us the stories associated with the haunting, some of which, in her opinion, are not true at all.
After our tour we began our setup process, DVRs were placed in the "D" block by the Adelaide Shadow Hunters, and the "C" and "A" blocks, and tower by Adelaide Spirit Chasers and Shadow Riders Paranormal Investigations. Ir lighting was set about the different hallways and measurements of sound, wind and EMF were taken throughout the facility.
We then stopped for dinner and a quick chat about noise levels and contamination of evidence.

Investigation

Each team began its investigation in it's allocated area, then rotated throughout the evening, until we gathered together for an experiment.

Cell Block Experiment
We gathered all the teams together in cell block "C". Allen and David acted as the Warden and Guard.
All the remaining team members divided into individual cells, then Allen and David walked through the cell block calling "lights out" and checking on the individual cells as guards would have done in their era.
During this experiment we noted a number of occurrences, one team member reported that their K2 meter went into the "red" , Allen and David both witnessed a light leaving a cell behind them and heard the sound of shuffling feet (no-one was behind them, nor was anyone moving about).
We decided to move the experiment into cell block "B' and try again, this timeless phenomenon occurred in the cell block when compared to the previous experiment, however, whilst watching the DVR system during the experiment, we noticed movement in the stairwell and in the "C" block where we had just been...

Each team took turns at doing EVP sessions during the night, experiments and using various equipment - look for a video on youtube soon showing some of the investigations during the night

Personal Experiences

Sometimes whilst investigating people have experiences that aren't caught on camera, voice recorder or other equipment.
These experiences, being touched, being scratched, smelling perfume etc. cannot be caught on conventional paranormal investigation equipment. Often these experiences are dismissed as they cannot be quantified, or validated by any conventional means, and thus remain the personal experience of the witness.
The majority of Personal Experiences are never expressed to the client as no physical evidence or reading can be supplied, however, if the event coincided with a reading, it may be referenced in a report.
Here we are going to share some of the personal experiences from team members on our investigation at The Gladstone Gaol.
We are not stating that these experiences are verifiable paranormal experiences, but they are related to the investigation and previous ghost stories told from the Gaol.

Lisa: Shadow Riders Paranormal Investigations
When we were doing the experiment in area B, I thought I would just lay down for a minute (mistake no 1) and shut my eyes for a sec(mistake no 2). I started to doze off, at first it felt like someone was lightly rubbing the inside of my knee, but then I decided it was just the fabric of my jeans moving across my leg, that I must have moved slightly. As I was falling deeper asleep, I got what felt like a firm squeeze on the right side of my waist, I really thought it felt like fingers digging into me, and I woke up with a jolt. When I was awake I thought I must have imagined it and it was just that I woke with a start. When I mentioned it on Sunday morning, I found out some of the others had the same thing.

"We began by holding an EVP session in Cell 1 where the only activity seemed to be me (John) experiencing something tug on my Infra-red light cord.  We then moved around each cell in D-block conducting EVP sessions where we didn't get much activity.
Another personal experience that happened to me was I had seen a shadow go across the back wall into a closed-cell.  As we went down there to see which cell it went in we noticed that the cell was locked and that you could not get into it."

 John: Shadow Riders Paranormal Investigations
It was about 5.30am... in "A" Block and I awoke with a pain in my side like I was being clamped by a claw of sorts. The funniest thing was I had been dreaming that I had been bitten by a crocodile. After I woke the pain was gone within a few seconds

Goosebumps: Paranormal Phenomena or Natural Reaction

GOOSEBUMPS
Paranormal Phenomena or Natural Reaction

By

Allen Tiller

Goosebumps, those odd feeling little prickly bumps that rise on our skin from time to time, have become a recent “Ghost Hunting” sensation, due to a paranormal television show claiming they are a reaction to “energy” or “spirits” present in the area the team are in....but what are they really? And are they paranormal?

Goosebumps is a reflex action called “Piloerection”

Piloerection is also known as “Horripilation” and “Pilometer Reflex”, or as its medical term, “cutis anserina“ it occurs in not just humans, but many other mammals as well.

Goosebumps can be brought about by cold breezes or emotions, such as awe, pleasure, fear and nostalgia, many people feel it when daydreaming, or when listening to a favourite piece of music.

Animals use Piloerection to make themselves look larger when they feel threatened. Ever seen the “hackles” on your dog? That’s piloerection too!

Wikipedia states the following:

Goosebumps are created when tiny muscles at the base of each hair, known as arrectores pilorum, contract and pull the hair erect. The reflex is started by the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for many fight-or-flight responses.

As a response to cold: in animals covered with fur or hair, the erect hairs trap air to create a layer of insulation. Goosebumps can also be a response to anger or fear: the erect hairs make the animal appear larger, in order to intimidate enemies. This can be observed in the intimidation displays of chimpanzees, in stressed mice and rats, and in frightened cats. In humans, it can even extend to piloerection as a reaction to hearing nails scratch on a chalkboard, listening to awe-inspiring music, or feeling or remembering strong and positive emotions (e.g., after winning a sports event).

So why is it called a “Goosebump”?

Basically, it is because the goosebump looks like the pimply skin of a plucked goose...

The alternate name for goose-bumps is goose-flesh. The Germans use an almost identical term Gaensehaut (gooseskin) and the Italians say pelle d'oca ( goose-skin). All of these draw from the appearance of a goose when it has been plucked.

So is it paranormal or natural?

It is a natural phenomenon and not paranormally linked in any other way than a natural reaction to one's surroundings, “fight or flight” instincts and heightened senses due to fear.
