Old Geelong Gaol Paranormal Investigation with Allen Tiller

Want to investigate the Old Geelong Gaol with Allen Tiller?

As many of you know, I don't run investigation nights very often, but this year, I am running two investigation evenings at the Old Geelong Gaol on the 28th and 29th of August.

This is a massive goal, considered very haunted, and is the place that Gaurav Tiwari famously snapped a full spectrum photograph of what is believed to be a guard that haunts the gaol.

Each night is limited to 15 guests. from 8:30pm until 2am. With a short talk and tour before we start investigating, and plenty of time for you to explore. If you have ghost hunting equipment, you are more than welcome to bring it along...

Paranormal Resume

Paranormal Resume

So, you’ve started a new ghost-hunting team, and you’re finding it hard to access locations?

Have you considered having a “resume” of past investigations?

We all have resumes to gain potential employment, but you can use the same idea to build a resume to send to potential locations you wish to investigate.

After completing a successful investigation, ask nicely if the owners wouldn’t mind writing a short reference about your conduct. Add that reference and a short brief about your investigation into a file in the style of a resume.

Place your police checks, insurance policy, your team's code of conduct and a short brief about your team in the same document.

You now have an investigation resume you can forward with your letter of intent to investigate!

Dustin Pari

Dustin Pari

Dustin Pari – The “Paranormal Rock Star”, many of you know him from his appearances on Ghost Hunters International
Dustin was born in July 1977 in Providence, Rhode Island, USA and was interested in the paranormal as a child, and began investigating in his early teens at local hot-spots with his best friends.
Nowadays he is a Father of three children, works a day job, is happily married, writes blogs, makes public appearances, does public speaking circuits, plays Guitar hero and watches cartoons....and still ghost hunts!
Dustin has appeared on many Television shows, including Ghost Hunters from 2005-2010, Ghost Hunters International from 2008 – 2010, Ghost Hunters Academy from 2009-2010 (via Archive Footage of previous shows on GH and GHI), The Monster Hunter in 2009, and most recently on a few episodes of “Reporter Chicks” in 2010-2011.
Dustin also co-wrote a book with fellow cast member, Barry Fitzgerald entitled “The Complete Approach”, which went into great detail about how to investigate for the paranormal.
Dustin is an intriguing fellow, his approach to the paranormal is somewhat different to most in the field, he feels he has nothing to prove to himself, but ghost hunts to prove to others that the spirit world is very real. In an interesting quote from a 2011 article, Dustin States the following:
"I don't believe in ghosts at all. I think it seems laughable, but I do recognize the fact that there is a spirit world around us and that after we pass away, regardless of what religious affiliations you may or may not have, there's energy inside us and there's a soul inside us, and it seems to go somewhere." (see link below to read more)
Dustin's own website reinforces his belief – A quote from Dustin's website:
As to why I am still pursuing this field today--well, I am a very spiritual individual and I am constantly looking for proof of the afterlife, not for myself but for others.
If nothing more than to show nonbelievers that there is something more out there to consider and that maybe- we can all live in this life, just being a little nicer to each other.”

Dustin Pari already has a legacy in paranormal research that many would envy, travelling the world to investigate the paranormal, learning, researching, exploring, but at the end of the day, he is a family man, a humble, genuine nice guy who has a passion for spirituality and helping others, something many paranormal investigators in the modern paranormal community seemed to have brushed aside, putting themselves and their teams first, before the very people they are there to help.

EVP Vs RVP - Genre Differentiation?

EVP Vs RVP

Electronic Voice Phenomena, all modern paranormal investigators and paranormal enthusiasts know the term and the basics of the theories behind it.
I am not going to go into the long history of the phenomenon here, that has been covered extensively in my other writings on Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present, nor am I going to delve into the Psychology behind it all, Auditory Pareidolia or Apophenia as I am not trying to prove or disprove EVP here.
For those that read this that do not know the basics of EVP, here is a brief summary.
EVP are recordings done on audio or visual equipment (via the microphone) that are sounds which resemble human speech, or other recognisable sounds to the human ear.
EVP's are often found in the static or white noise of the recording, or the pauses in-between conversations of investigators. It is thought these voices or sounds may be from the afterlife, spirits or ghosts, or whatever you wish to call them.
There has been a class system attached to EVPs which is as follows:

  • Class A: The voices are clearly understood by all who listen and the words are somewhat loud and clear. Usually, 5 independent people who listen at separate times (so not to be influenced by other investigators opinions) have to agree 100% on what the spoken words are.
  • Class B: Voices cannot be clearly understood. Tones are also very low and hard to understand.
  • Class C: Voices are exceptionally faint and virtually completely incomprehensible which are most common and usually unacceptable.

At this current point in time, Franks box and “the Spirit Box” (popularised by TV show Ghost Adventures) have become very common tools in the kits of many paranormal investigators. No matter how hard people try and claim that these devices are picking up the voices of the dead, sceptics will always bring forth the fact they are broken radios, that sweep through radio signals and pick up broadcasts.
Not only do they pick up the radio, but also TV and CB radio signals and interference from other devices like EMF pumps.
What they are not doing is recording EVP's.
Why are they not recording EVPS You ask? - quite simply because of the reasons above.

I am going to take a massive leap here and coin a new phrase “RVP” Radio Voice Phenomenon, voices heard, or recorded from radio frequency scanning devices.
My guess is that this may create some controversy, but so be it, but I for one am sceptical about any device that can allow a radio signal to be its source of “intelligent conversation”, this is purely because it is easy to manipulate, can be readily interfered with by outside sources (like someone on a CB radio), our brains are attuned to listen for words which in itself is a source of Auditory Pareidolia or Apophenia and, in my opinion, the way we question the spirit box is much akin to the psychic who throws out the question “Is there anyone in here who has a relative who's named starts with M!?”
We are throwing out questions expecting a preconceived answer, and more often than not we will hear that answer within in the noise of the radio sweep when there is actually nothing there.

So, the point of this exercise was not to discredit the Ghost Box, because there is always the chance that this device is genuinely picking up the voices of the dead as theorised, the point of this exercise was to create terminology to distinguish between two very different types of phenomenon that are all too often put under the one title of “EVP”.
EVP and RVP are two very different types of data collection used by paranormal investigators globally and should be categorised as such. Both have different traits, different advantages and very distinctly different disadvantages.

I for one will now refer to any recording that is captured from a radio device, Franks Box, Spirit Box as an "RVP"

I expect there will be feedback on this, please refrain from outright attacks because they will be deleted, but please do offer constructive feedback on the terminology (not the device itself, or the reason it does/does not work) – I'm not looking to change the world, just to clarify genres of paranormal data recording into more intelligent categories and sub-categories...

Thanks
Allen Tiller

ORB's and Digital Photography

ORB's and Digital Photography

There is much debate and controversy about whether "orbs" in photos are spiritual/ghosts, dust, moisture or insects.
On one side of the debate, "Skeptics" are saying the orb is a reflection/ refraction of light caused by the flash being too close to the lens on modern digital cameras.
Sceptics will also argue that dust, moisture, rain and dirt on the lens can cause the orb effect - with simple testing, this argument is quite correct.
Aiding the Skeptical debate is the fact some camera companies are now offering cameras that cannot take orb photos by adjusting the lens-to-flash ratio.

On the other side, we have the "Believers". Believers will tell you that orbs can be caught on camera without a flash, that many have seen the orb with their own eyes as it floats by and then taken a photo.
They will point to evidence of older film cameras and video cameras, that have no flash, recording orb photos.

It is also widely believed that the "spherical" shape or orb is the most economical shape for energy to travel, and, as we are all energy, in one form or another, wouldn't it be easiest to appear as an orb?

In my experience, spirits in spherical form do exist, after seeing a fully formed apparition, and taking a photo, the apparition in the photo appeared as an orb (I also know of another Paranormal Investigator locally that has had the same experience in the same cemetery!). Also, I and other team members have witnessed orbs with our own eyes in cemeteries and houses. They appeared to emit their own light and pulse at the same time, moving through the air much like a jellyfish moves through the water.
Even though I do believe the orb is the easiest form for a spirit to travel, I do still believe that the majority of "orb" photos out there are contaminants from the local environment where the picture has been taken, with insects and dust being the most common causes.
I suggest looking at your environment, taking notes of wind strength, dust, insects and anything that can cause loud vibrations (such as a band in a hall), moisture, rain etc. and if you cannot control these conditions when getting your orb photo, then you can probably discard it as a contaminant and not a spirit...
I also suggest testing your camera in a controlled condition, say, inside your own house, put the camera on a tripod and throw some powder, or dust into the air while taking a flash photo just to see how the "orbs" will look in your photo. This will also give you some idea of how the flash, lens ratio works - We at Eidolon Paranormal have done our own experiments with dust, and other objects to see for ourselves that the majority of photos out there are dust or other contaminates - Allen Tiller

Insects

The Picture below has been produced by a team in the USA named. "Midnite Walkers". Midnight Walkers went to extensive lengths to take photographs of various insects in their local region and explain how insects and incorrect camera use, or settings, can cause various shapes, or patterns that some teams or investigators will claim to be spirits or Angels

Composite picture showing the typical irregular shape and high brilliance of insect orbs.

Image sizes have been scaled to a similar size for easier comparison of shape and brightness.
Composite picture showing the typical image overexposure associated with insect orbs. Originals are to the left, and pictures showing overexposure are to the right. Slight overexposure shows up as coloured regions. Black central regions show heavy overexposure.

ORBS

What is an orb?
Wikipedia defines it as

The term orb describes unexpected, typically circular artefacts that occur in flash photography — sometimes with trails indicating motion — especially common with modern compact and ultra-compact digital cameras.
Orbs are also sometimes called backscatter, orb backscatter, or near-camera reflection.

This photo was taken in a cemetery by the Eidolon Paranormal team in 2009
The ground had ash on it from a recent fire and it was beginning to rain lightly. After walking through the ash pile,  kicking up dust we took the photo. Notice the red dust/red orb, the ash dust appears white/grey and blue - the rain drop appears bluish-grey and has the most density
Midnite Walkers have also granted us permission to use their conglomeration ORB photos as a reference tool for our readers, and future paranormal investigators

SA Paranormal Investigation: Ford House - Kapunda - SA (2013)

Ford House - Kapunda

Ford House, situated on the Main Street of Kapunda, is amongst one of the oldest buildings in the small country town 77 km's north of Adelaide, in South Australia
On the 17th of November, Overland Paranormal and Eidolon Paranormal were kindly allowed access to investigate the building by the owners.
For many years now the occupants have come to interact with the spirits inside the building, a young lady named Mary, who is thought to have died in an accident with a dumbwaiter, crushing her early twenty-something body in the lower dining room (If the dumb-waiter existed - it is long gone now), and a pair of young children who play at the top of the ornate wooden staircase that leads to the upstairs bedrooms of this beautiful and well kept Bed and Breakfast, in what is considered, one of the most haunted towns in Australia.

Ford house has been many things over the years, but it was thought to be one of the first General Stores in Kapunda, if not the very first. Since its first inception as a single story building in the 1840s, it has since been rebuilt into the two-story building which was split in half. Later the two halves were combined to make one large mansion.
Over the past One hundred and Fifty years it has been many things, a plumbers shop, a General Store, a Barber, and Egg-wholesaler, a private residence, there is even whispers of it once being a very profitable  "House of Ill-repute" (A "knock-Shop", or Whorehouse).

 Investigation

Like many investigations, this time we didn't get a single thing, no EVPs, no photos and even Overland Paranormals SB-& Spirit box got zero voices. Ford House was totally utterly devoid of paranormal activity on the night in question - or maybe the spirits were just hiding in another room away from us? Who knows, but in any case, on this investigation, we recorded nothing out of the ordinary in way, shape or form.

Paranormal Investigation: Dead Mans Pass - Gawler

Dead Man's Pass

Location: Gawler, South Australia
Location Type: Linear Park
Location Status: Open to the public during daylight hours
Website: http://www.gawler.sa.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/Dead_man_s_pass.pdf

 History

Colonel William Light passed through the Ford at Dead man's pass, known then as Para Pass in 1837, the Pass was used at this time as a river crossing for Bullocks and horse teams heading through the Gawler region. It was also used as a camp-site for explorers looking to travel north into the Barossa region.

The crossing got its name after an exploration party returning from the Barossa ranges came across an exhausted traveller, whom they offered respite too. Once stopped at the crossing they checked on their new companion who had fallen asleep in the back of their dray, only to find him dead.
Having no tools with which to dig a grave, they placed his body upright in a hollow tree and covered it as best they could with sticks and branches.
Not long after, another travelling party happened across the gruesome site, and, after taking samples of the gentleman’s clothing, encased him with clay in the tree.
The name “Dead Man's Pass” was adopted in 1842 as the permanent name of the South Para River ford where the hollow tree coffin was located.

Well before the influx of Europeans, this was also home to the Aboriginal Kaurna People.
Located in the area are hidden Aboriginal caves, which contain paintings, middens and artifacts belonging to the local's tribes that used this site for water, food and shelter.

Death at Dead Man's Pass

There has been more death at the pass south of Gawler since the location got its name, here are a few of the newspaper reports we have discovered.
Also, something else was found nearby the Pass, which pre-dates humans! read on to find out what!

The South Australian Register

CUTTHROAT AND A BROKEN LEG.

While leaning over the swing bridge at Dead Man's Pass, Gawler, on Tuesday evening. Mr J. Bald, of Gawler South, fell over, the railing on to the bank of the

Little Para 'River. His jaw came in contact with the wires of the bridge, and he sustained a severe wound in the throat. He was taken to High-street Private Hospital, where it was found that he was also suffering from a fractured leg. His condition is serious-

FATALITY AT GAWLER.

GAWLER, October 8.

Patrick Condon, about 61 years of age, and employed by the Gawler Corporation, met with a fatal accident last night. He was out with a night-cart, and was found. this morning, near Dead Man's Pass, pinned under the vehicle, which had fallen over an embankment and was upside down. He died soon afterwards. He has left a widow and several children.

DROWNING CASE AT GAWLER.

Gawler, July 12.

A mysterious case of drowning took place at Gawler today. Some clothes were discovered on the bank near Dead Man's Pass this afternoon, and the matter was reported to the police. A boy went into the water and discovered the body of Anton Johann Linke, aged 13. Deceased, who was a cripple, left home in the morning but did not return. The water was about 8 ft. deep, and the boy was unable to swim. An inquest will probably be held tomorrow.

Tuesday 16 July 1901

THE GAWLER DROWNING CASE.

Gawler, July 15.

An inquest was held at the Gawler Courthouse on Saturday to inquire into the mysterious death from drowning of the lad Anton Johann Link, which occurred on Friday last. Mr W. H.

Cox acted as coroner.

Emma Link, wife of John Link, and mother of deceased said she sent her son to the railway- station between half-past 9 and 10 on the previous morning to get a parcel for a neighbour, who gave him 3d. He said he would not be long but would come back and play with the children.

She used to punish him when he deserved it and never heard him make any threats. He left home by himself. He often complained of his head and teeth after operations through taking chloroform. He had been to the river once or twice, and she beat him for it. Did not know whether he could swim. Errol Reuben Broadbent, aged 12, deposed to finding the clothes on the bank of the river near the Dead Man's Pass. Told his father, and reported the matter to P.C. Schinnick. Richard Davidson, aged 14, said he saw deceased pass the waterworks, coming up from the river on the previous day. He had two boys with him, and they were going in the direction of the Black Hole.

Angas Mackay said he went to the river and P.C. Schinnick asked if someone would go in. He went in and found the body in about 4 or 5 ft. of water. It seemed as if the body had been washed down by the current. Jonathan Curnow said he knew the deceased. Remembered seeing his mother thrashing him about two months ago. On that occasion, deceased came out crying, and told his mother she would thrash him once too often. He said he would go and drown himself in the "Black Hole." Deceased told the witness that on two occasions. Mrs Anderson and her daughter heard the same expression from the boy. P.C. Schinnick gave evidence as to receiving the news of the discovery of clothes on the bank, and the means taken to recover the body. The jury returned the following verdict:-"The deceased was found drowned, and there is no evidence to show how he came in the water."

Diprotodon
Ernest L. B. Potter (West Croydon) tells me that as a boy of 10. about 1890. he remembers a diprotodon skull being found in an excavation for an underground tank at Gawler South, near Dead Man's Pass on the South Para and the road to One Tree Hill. His uncle. Edward Potter, a geologist, pronounced it to be a diprotodon.

Investigations

Eidolon Paranormal first started coming to this site in 2007 investigating the ghosts that are seen near what is now the ambulance station, and the opposite side of the ford, where a man “dressed in olden days” clothing has been known to save children, who have lost control of their push-bike on the steep hill and tight corner, from being hit by oncoming traffic.
Before its recent upgrade, the ford crossing has seen a number of vehicular accidents with people losing control on the tight slippery bend, or people turning from, or into the intersection where the reserve is. Two friends of Allen’s were involved in a single car accident on this notorious corner, in my youth, which almost resulted in their deaths…. luckily, both survived to tell the tale….
Eidolon Paranormal had very little luck in getting results here as the traffic flow, even at night, interrupts any kind of EVP session or other experiments we tried. We then moved our investigations into the reserve itself, which brought up its own particular set of distractions and interruptions.  For as long as Allen can remember the reserve has been an attractive place for people looking to “disappear” from view, to hang out, drink, take drugs and do all other kinds of reckless things they don’t want the local constabulary to witness. The reserve is notorious amongst the town’s youth as a drinking spot, and with that, investigating takes on a whole new dangerous set of circumstances, this is definitely not a place to investigate at night by yourself.
Due to the constant interruptions and distractions, we left this site for well over a year now, but on a recent trip to Gawler, Allen decided it was time to take another look.
However, again, we came upon distractions and interruptions and left our investigation for another time…we will return to the Pass soon, and try again…

Religious Protection - Part Three - Islamic

Religious Protection
(Islamic)

In keeping with our tradition of unity, fairness and equality, we are adding prayers and scriptures from religions across the globe. We know many Islamic ghost hunters around the world and are often asked by them about spiritual protection when ghost hunting.

It is not our intention to offend anyone of any religion. race or creed, so, if you are offended by what we are presenting on this page, please move on to another.

Islam

Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a text considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God (Arabic: الله‎ Allāh), and by the teachings and normative example (called the Sunnah and composed of Hadith) of Muhammad, considered by them to be the last prophet of God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim.

Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and the purpose of existence is to love and serve God. Muslims also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed at many times and places before, including through Abraham, Moses and Jesus, whom they consider prophets.

They maintain that previous messages and revelations have been partially changed or corrupted over time, but consider the Qur'an to be both the unaltered and the final revelation of God. Religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are basic concepts and obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, providing guidance on multifarious topics from banking and welfare, to warfare and the environment.

" Salah & Du'a "

"Salah" is an Arabic word whose basic meaning is "bowing, homage, worship. prayer". In its English usage, the reference of the word is almost always confined to the Muslim formal, obligatory worship.

Translating salah as "prayer" is not usually considered precise enough, as "prayer" can indicate several different ways of relating to God; personal prayer or supplication is called duʿāʾ (literally "call") in Islamic usage.

Muslims themselves use several terms to refer to salah depending on their language or culture. In many parts of the world, including many non-Arab countries such as Indonesia, the Arabic term salah is used. The other major term is the Persian word namāz (نماز), used by speakers of the Indo-Iranian languages (e.g., Persian) Turkish and Bosnian.

Du’a in Arabic means call, request, supplication or prayer.

The Holy Prophet said: To keep the devils at bay and to destroy the effects of magic recite verses 54 to 56 of Al Araf.

"Oh Muslims residing here, salaams on you, by the will of Allah we will also be coming to you. We seek safety for us and you".

Religious Protection: Part Two - Christianity

Religious Protection(Christianity)

This page is a continuation from the previous "religious protection " page found here - "Religious Protection".
I recently asked in the forums of "Christian Cryptozoology and Paranormal Study Group", on Facebook, if there were more Christian prayers or scriptures I could share with you, constant reader, that may aid you in your need for spiritual protection against dark entities brought forth whilst investigating.
Pastor Robin Swope, "The Paranormal Pastor" was forthcoming with some suggested reading, so I decided to add a new page to the website with the good Pastors suggestions.
Soon, I will be asking for religious protection prayers, or scriptures, from other religions to add to our collection here on Eidolon Paranormal

Until then, stay safe!
 - Allen

1 John 4:4

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

You are from God, children, and you have conquered them because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world
4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them.
The saints had overcome these false prophets, but they were of God,
because greater is he that is in you, and the Spirit in them was mightier
than he that is in the world, than the evil spirit, that of the prince of the world,
which was in the false prophets.

Ephesians 1:19 - 23
 (New Living Translation)
19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
 Ephesians 1:19- 23
(Common English Bible Translation)
19 and what is the overwhelming greatness of God’s power that is working among us believers. This power is conferred by the energy of God’s powerful strength. 20 God’s power was at work in Christ when God raised him from the dead and sat him at God’s right side in the heavens, 21 far above every ruler and authority and power and angelic power, any power that might be named not only now but in the future. 22 God put everything under Christ’s feet and made him head of everything in the church, 23 which is his body. His body, the church, is the fullness of Christ, who fills everything in every way.

Romans 8:31-39

Romans 8:31-39

31 What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
32He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? 33Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
34Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.*
35Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36As it is written,
‘For your sake, we are being killed all day long;
we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.’
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
