Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present: Alison Stanley

Alison Stanley

Mildura & District Psychic & Paranormal Investigations (MDPPIG for short) is a relatively new team headed by Alison Stanley, operating out of Mildura in Victoria, Australia

Alison, like many investigators I have interviewed, had her interest in the paranormal start at a very early age, but as she grew up her interest was slowly pushed back by studying at school.
In later life, people like Derek Acorah and James Van Praagh inspired a new found interest in the paranormal and spirituality that set Alison on a course to start investigating and learning for herself, and to found her team.

I asked Alison if she had any stories of paranormal encounters she wished to share with you, constant reader, her reply:

UFO's:
Alison: I was coming home one afternoon from work along a back road from town when a ball of light appeared a reasonable distance away low in the sky and started to follow me. It basically circled me slowly, hovered over the area of my car, followed me from behind and on both sides and then winked out. I had pulled over to try to find it, but it was gone.

Another time was only a couple of years ago, a strange arrange of lights were seen over Mildura. I was with my husband and stepdaughter at the time coming home at night.
The lights were in a rotating pattern and some were just still. They seemed to follow us as we drove along the road. No matter which way we turned, it was with us, but low in the sky. I got my husband to pull over and I got out. The lights stopped and they seemed to be right above us. My husband didn’t like it and I got back in the car and he drove off in rather a hurry..lol.

GHOSTS:
I have only "seen" two people/spirits/ghosts. Those also happen to be related to me. One was my Great Great Grandmother and the other, my Great Aunt. Both have appeared to me on occasions in my house or where I have been staying at the time. They have shown themselves when they think I need a little looking after, or a gentle nudge in doing the right thing. (like going to bed when I am falling asleep on the chair)

Alison has had experience with an earlier team she was once a researcher for, based in England, unfortunately, the owner of the group moved to America to be with her family, who also have a paranormal team, disbanding the English based team.

Alison has always had an interest in trying to obtain proof that spirits and UFO's are out there. She also has a strong interest in history and mysteries involving UFO's, ghost and myths, that has led her on her quest to find proof that no “science debunker” can debunk!

I asked Alison how being an investigator has changed her life:

Alison: It has opened me up more spiritually and also has let me meet so many other like minded people out there. I have learnt so many new things and I still keep learning!
With Spirits, finding evidence via pictures, evp's or through medium-ship and then researching to validate it all brings a sense of satisfaction that what you have found, was real at one time.
Investigating and researching has helped me learn more about our own history in Australia!

As we discovered before, Alison was a researcher in an English team, I asked Alison what her role involved with that team:

Alison: Across Borders was based in England and I did the research for the places that they were going to investigate. It was good as I was based here in Australia and didn’t know much about their sites that they would visit. So I didn't have any bias or prejudice about any areas.
I would only tell them of any dangers that they need to be aware of. At the end of their investigation I would take their reports and write one up about their findings.

Alison told me of some locations she has enjoyed investigating recently, the first being a Caravan Park in Wentworth, New South Wales Australia.

Alison: My family used to go every Easter and Christmas there for camping. It is located right on the river and was part of Moarna Station. Over the years of staying there I became aware of a girl in spirit whose name was Emilie. She has become a sort of an attachment and every time that I go visit, she is there and the energies surrounding the caravan park is amazing.
We have gotten most of our best shots from the Caravan Park and a lot of mediums love it because it is so full of different spirits from different eras and has a lot of history.

I also asked Alison to name three places she has been most impressed with:

Alison: Broken Hill; all over Broken Hill, what can I say, the energies and the orbs, streaks, it is a ghost hunters paradise! Being an old mining town (and still mining) the history of accidents and deaths throughout the town have made it a paranormal hot spot!

Fort Courage Caravan Park; so many years of history and you always get great pictures for evidence. We never go home without good evidence!

The Old Wentworth Goal; we had special permission for a two hour investigation. The orb pictures and what people felt and experienced (myself included) was amazing. The woman's cell and some areas of the men's cell got a number of reactions from our members.

I asked Alison if anything unexplainable or paranormal has ever happened on an investigation that she could share with us.
Alison: A member on one investigation had a brand new camera and batteries. They were all charged up and working, they went into the building, started taking pictures. Everything was going fine till they got to one room. Then the pictures had a yellow tint, triple images, fuzziness, then stopped working altogether. As soon as the rest of the members arrived, the camera worked fine again. Looking back on the pictures we found the beginnings of a Spirit manifesting into a human image.
Allen: What is your best piece of evidence you have captured, and can you tell me about why it is good?

Alison: I have so many things, but I have to say the image that was captured of a spirit manifesting into a human image. You can actually see the hair line around the ears, the neck, shoulders, part of the shirt and his moustache.

Alison also shared this story from her experience in Wentworth gaol:
Alison: At the old Wentworth Goal, I was in the woman’s cell area with two others. I sat down with my back against the jail bars and according to one of our psychic mediums, went into a trance medium state. I was getting images of a lady who had gone quite mad. Muttering about her children, a boy and a girl and so many other things I could not understand.
I lost track of time but was pulled out of the trance, I tried to get up but ended up crawling out on my hands and knees. (it knocked me around a bit)
But outside, I ended up with continual belching and lacking energy, like I was continually being drained. I could not get rid of it. Then I was dry reaching, then belching.
It took a long time and with the help of the same Psychic Medium to stop the belching and the draining of energy.
We could not put it down to food or anything I drank as it was late at night, I was only drinking water on occasions and I had eaten very early that night with no lasting effects.

We Wish Alison and her team the best of luck for 2013.

Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present: Icey Paranormal

Icey Paranormal

Matt "Icy" Dent

This week we meet Matt “Icy “Dent from Icy Paranormal, an investigator based in Gawler, South Australia.
Matt has had a fascination with the paranormal his entire life, having once lived in a former haunted schoolhouse where copious amounts of paranormal phenomena were happening to his family. His Mother tells a story of Matt, as a child, often playing with a spirit in the family home
Matt at Adelaide Botanic Garden

One of Matt's recent investigations happened at the Gawler Town Hall, Matt was investigating when he heard the disembodied voice of a young girl, which he also managed to catch in his camera's audio

Myself with Matt at Gawler Train Station about to embark on an adventure
More recently Matt has been inspired by Zak Bagans, Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwins show “Ghost Adventures” and The Booth Brothers documentaries, but he also lists shows such as The Extraordinary, The X-files and others of the ilk as inspiration for taking his interest from being a watcher of shows, and a paranormal enthusiast  to starting a team and doing actual investigations.

Matt's fascination with all things paranormal has never abated, he has collected a large amount of paranormally related media, including books and DVDs, and is in constant search of more material to study.

Matt would really love to visit the U.S.A. one day and investigate at Waverly Hills Sanatorium, hopefully with the Ghost Adventures crew.
Matt at Gladstone Gaol testing his colour theory

In 2012 Matt started to make many new friends by joining in with the SA Paranormal Meet-ups at Kapunda, South Australia, through the meetups he has managed to make some new connections and join other teams on investigations.

Matt is also willing to try new ideas and methods on how to attract spirits and gather evidence, one of his more recent experiments involved using colour to attract spirits.

Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present: Mark Wallbank

Haunted AucklandMark Wallbank

This week we travel back to New Zealand to meet Mark Wallbank, founder and lead investigator of Haunted Auckland. Mark has been keenly researching the paranormal since the 1980's sometimes with other people, and at times by himself.

I asked Mark how he became interested in the paranormal?
“I've always been interested in everything outside of the 'norm'. Normal to me, was boring. As soon as I could read, my research began. UFOs, Cryptozoology, Ghosts and all of life’s mysteries. My world suddenly became a lot bigger and I found I had many, MANY questions that needed answering.”

Have you had anything paranormal occur in your life? (if so, what has happened? )
“A few things like a dark shadow approaching me, going through me and then disappearing behind me, many years ago....many experiences with super icy cold spots. Nothing I would consider life-changing or amazing though. Just a few neat experiences that made the moment that little bit more interesting to me.”

Why did you become an investigator/ researcher?
“Because my questions weren’t being answered. My school teachers had no answers, my parents had no answers, so I had to go and seek out some answers for myself. I used to lead a small paranormal group back in the 80s. We were unofficially called "Auckland Ghost Hunting Group" (Yeah yeah, I know. A name like that these days would raise the anger of many paranormal groups. Ghost 'hunting' seems to be a well loathed phrase in this day and age!) We were young and naive but very enthusiastic! We roamed around cemeteries and old derelict buildings and houses taking photos and recording audio. It was fun. We hung around for a couple of years until fizzling and heading out into different directions. I went solo for about 20 years, which was actually quite satisfying and character building. Then in 2010, I got the urge to be a part of a group situation again and so started piecing together a team of researchers.”

How has becoming an investigator changed your life?
“It hasn’t really changed me as a person, as I've always been passionate about the Paranormal. I guess as I've grown, I've learnt a lot more and the more I've matured the more serious, investigative and systematic I've become in my research
I'm also a bit more focused and hopefully a little less naive these days. My passion and enthusiasm is one thing that has never faded with age though. In fact, it's growing with every new thing I discover.”

Mark and his team have done some fascinating investigations, and work closely with other teams in the area, including Core Paranormal NZ, whose founder, George, I profiled in an earlier edition.

One of the great things about the Haunted Auckland website is the detailed investigation reports of each place the team visits, these are a valuable reference tool for any other paranormal investigation team entering the same premises at a later date, or a learning tool for people just entering the field wondering how to go about writing detailed reports on cases.

Paranormal Investigators: Past and Present: Kathy Messenger

Kathy 'Messenger' Flanagan

Welcome to another instalment of the Eidolon Paranormal blog “Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present”, this week we remain in my home state and visit self-proclaimed psychic: Kathy "The Messenger" of Renmark Unexplained Paranormal Investigators, in South Australia's Riverland. I have decided with this blog to let my interviewee do most of the talking, as her answers to my questions are very descriptive, detailed and profound, and don't need much in the way of narration from me...

Introducing, Kathy Messenger of R.U.P.I.

Where does your interest in the paranormal stem from Kathy?
“ I became interested in the paranormal when I was very young, I was born with the ability to see ghosts/spirits and have been doing so regularly since the age of 12. This has been a part of my life for well over 30 years and the passion for research and investigating grows every day.”

“My first paranormal experience was when I was 4 years old. Where I was born in 1962 it was a small country town where every one (sic) knew everyone, so it was quite common for a 4 yr old to go around the corner and visit with a friend. This particular day I was on my way to visit when I saw a boy on the corner playing with 2 toy trucks, he smiled and waved to me, saying “hello want to play”. I stopped and played for a little while he told me his name was Jeremy and asked if I wanted to go to his house to play, I said I had to ask mum. When I went home and asked mum she said no and I can not go out to play any more that day. When I was 15 my mum told me Jeremy had been killed on that corner 20 years before I was born.”

Kathy has accumulated 30 plus of years of investigations, stories and anecdotes since becoming an investigator, I asked Kathy how she became an investigator?
“I decided to become an investigator in 1979 with my trusty old cassette player, because I thought if I could hear them, then maybe just maybe the recording will. I wanted people to hear what I hear, share my excitement of knowing there is life after death.”
"For me becoming a paranormal investigator has not changed my life, because I have been stepping into all my life really but it has certainly educated me and inspired me to keep going”

How did R.U.P.I. Come about, and had you investigated with other teams before?
“ I created a team named R.U.P.I. in March 2012, we are the first paranormal team in the Riverland and very proud of that.
I have worked with a team previously, and found it very educational. I worked with this time as a part time medium, they have their own amazing medium, I would go along when invited.
I am the Medium of this team, also Lead member, Investigator, secretary, etc.”

Does R.U.P.I. Have a favourite place to investigate?
“R.U.P.I. has a favourite location called Nappers Bridge, Lake Bonney, this area is full of activity of not only adult spirits but children, it also has a very interesting history.”

Where else have you investigated in this great country of ours?
“I did an investigation in an old asylum in Sydney and that was intriguing, the atmosphere in there was deep and thick, our senses at times were confusing, and although not much was caught on video or photos, the personal experiences were at times fast and furious.”

"Gladstone Goal was another place we investigated, it was formidable on first approach. As a medium I came across some interesting spirits, to say the least, we have a nice little collection of evps from there, with question and answer response. These 2 places stick in my mind because of the violent history and how strange the atmosphere, the air was so different to the other. Where I felt confusion in the Asylum I felt great anger in the Goal."

What of your data and evidence, have you had any great finds in your time investigating?
“We have some great evidence but my favourite is the old captain from Renmark Hotel. I took a photo after hearing my name being called, I was down stairs cleaning, heard my name, climbed the stairs, saw him and took photo, low and behold there he was. For me this validated me hearing my name called from a certain area, due to being able to capture him with camera.”

What would you say is your favourite piece of investigative equipment?
“R.U.P.I always uses digital voice recorders. This would have to be our favourite piece of equipment, due to the fact it helps validate my questions to a spirit with a response from them.”

Kathy and the team have some exciting upcoming projects for 2013, some that may put them in the spotlight, I asked Kathy if herself and her team has had any media exposure as of yet?
“R.U.P.I. has been very lucky lately, our team made the front page of our local paper “Murray Pioneer”, I had 2 interviews, one with local radio 5rm and the other with Magic FM, which really has assisted a great spark in interest.”
