Yorke Peninsula UFO Sighting

Yorke Peninsula UFO Sighting

Mystery lights over the Yorke Peninsula town of Kadina were reported in 2010 in the Yorke Peninsula Country Times (http://www.ypct.com.au/ ). Many members of the local community reported seeing the strange lights and phoned the newspaper to ask if they knew what the mystery lights were. The Newspaper conducted a quick investigation, phoning local airport control, but no flights were in the area at the time.

What is Braucherei?

What is Braucherei?

Bruacherei was brought to the United States by early Germanic immigrants who fled religious persecution in their homelands, these Immigrants would later be referred to as the Pennsylvania Dutch.
This magical system is based on aspects of Christian Theology, European Folklore, superstition, ceremonial magic, witchcraft rites and shamanism; added in some areas are Native American Indian practices. The magical system can be traced back as far as the 2nd Century.

Much of the magical system is based on three sets of writings, Egyptian Secrets by Albert Magnus, Long Lost Friend by John George Hohman, and the Romanus-buchlein, which derives from some Gypsym (Roma) traditions. Bruacherei, as a religion, relies very heavily on the power of God and Christ and incorporates the mystic and magical teachings and philosophies of early Christian mystics

The heart of the religion remains in Pennsylvania, and as one travels further out of the state, the religion blends more into Shamanistic and Neopagan practices and loses some of its Christian aspects. Modern-day Braucherei practitioners include Chris Bilardi, Jack Montgomery, and Rob Chapman. These gentlemen have brought the traditional aspects of the religion back into the limelight through books and websites.

Like all religions it has a good and bad side, the light workers are known as practitioners of “Pow-Wow” the “night-workers” are known as the “Hexerei” or “Hexers”.

Hexerei

This is the darker side of Braucherei, this is what the Pennsylvania Dutch consider, in their terms, “witchcraft”. It is the practice of hexing, using malevolent magic to cause hurt and harm. It is a self-serving form of the Braucherei, utilising demons and spirits to serve for one's own gain.

Pow-wow

Pow-wow is the Braucherei practitioners' of good and light. It teaches healing and protection against evil by utilising charms to protect against the evils of hexes and witchcraft.

Pennsylvania Dutch Hexes

The Pennsylvania Dutch are a colorful folk when it comes to decoration, many barns are adorned with colourful symbols that also appear on birth certificates and in other places. These colourful symbols are known as Hex Signs, a term coined by Author Wallace Nutting in his book Pennsylvania Beautiful, which was published in 1924.

Hex Signs utilize motifs, usefully featuring hearts, wheat, birds, tulips and colours, some also use a very distinctive bird known as a Distelfinks, also common is the usage of Stars, the moon and sun.
During the late 1800s people in the area started painting the hex signs on their barns as a way to ward of witchcraft, bad luck and other evil doings, They became even more popular after the 1928 “Witch Craft Trials” dubbed by one local newspaper as “The weirdest and most curiously fascinating in the history of jurisprudence."

EVP Vs RVP - Genre Differentiation?

EVP Vs RVP

Electronic Voice Phenomena, all modern paranormal investigators and paranormal enthusiasts know the term and the basics of the theories behind it.
I am not going to go into the long history of the phenomenon here, that has been covered extensively in my other writings on Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present, nor am I going to delve into the Psychology behind it all, Auditory Pareidolia or Apophenia as I am not trying to prove or disprove EVP here.
For those that read this that do not know the basics of EVP, here is a brief summary.
EVP are recordings done on audio or visual equipment (via the microphone) that are sounds which resemble human speech, or other recognisable sounds to the human ear.
EVP's are often found in the static or white noise of the recording, or the pauses in-between conversations of investigators. It is thought these voices or sounds may be from the afterlife, spirits or ghosts, or whatever you wish to call them.
There has been a class system attached to EVPs which is as follows:

  • Class A: The voices are clearly understood by all who listen and the words are somewhat loud and clear. Usually, 5 independent people who listen at separate times (so not to be influenced by other investigators opinions) have to agree 100% on what the spoken words are.
  • Class B: Voices cannot be clearly understood. Tones are also very low and hard to understand.
  • Class C: Voices are exceptionally faint and virtually completely incomprehensible which are most common and usually unacceptable.

At this current point in time, Franks box and “the Spirit Box” (popularised by TV show Ghost Adventures) have become very common tools in the kits of many paranormal investigators. No matter how hard people try and claim that these devices are picking up the voices of the dead, sceptics will always bring forth the fact they are broken radios, that sweep through radio signals and pick up broadcasts.
Not only do they pick up the radio, but also TV and CB radio signals and interference from other devices like EMF pumps.
What they are not doing is recording EVP's.
Why are they not recording EVPS You ask? - quite simply because of the reasons above.

I am going to take a massive leap here and coin a new phrase “RVP” Radio Voice Phenomenon, voices heard, or recorded from radio frequency scanning devices.
My guess is that this may create some controversy, but so be it, but I for one am sceptical about any device that can allow a radio signal to be its source of “intelligent conversation”, this is purely because it is easy to manipulate, can be readily interfered with by outside sources (like someone on a CB radio), our brains are attuned to listen for words which in itself is a source of Auditory Pareidolia or Apophenia and, in my opinion, the way we question the spirit box is much akin to the psychic who throws out the question “Is there anyone in here who has a relative who's named starts with M!?”
We are throwing out questions expecting a preconceived answer, and more often than not we will hear that answer within in the noise of the radio sweep when there is actually nothing there.

So, the point of this exercise was not to discredit the Ghost Box, because there is always the chance that this device is genuinely picking up the voices of the dead as theorised, the point of this exercise was to create terminology to distinguish between two very different types of phenomenon that are all too often put under the one title of “EVP”.
EVP and RVP are two very different types of data collection used by paranormal investigators globally and should be categorised as such. Both have different traits, different advantages and very distinctly different disadvantages.

I for one will now refer to any recording that is captured from a radio device, Franks Box, Spirit Box as an "RVP"

I expect there will be feedback on this, please refrain from outright attacks because they will be deleted, but please do offer constructive feedback on the terminology (not the device itself, or the reason it does/does not work) – I'm not looking to change the world, just to clarify genres of paranormal data recording into more intelligent categories and sub-categories...

Thanks
Allen Tiller

The Booth Brothers

The Booth Brothers

If you haven’t heard of the Booth Brothers and you are interested in the paranormal, then it's time to seek out their documentaries and get ready to be entertained, plus run the gamut of emotions that their documentaries inspire!
Philip and Christopher Booth, twin Brothers from Yorkshire in the UK have become somewhat of a paranormal phenomenon in their own right, with their in-depth paranormal related documentaries, horror movies and soundtracks.

Christopher, known by his nickname “Saint” and Philip were once in a Canadian rock band called “Sweeney Todd” with older brother John, "Saint" replaced Bryan Adams on vocals, the band were at one stage, an opening act for Motley Crue!

The brothers went from being rock stars to production assistants on movie and Television studio sets and slowly worked their way up through the ranks, learning as many roles in the industry as they could.
They soon landed an opportunity with Playboy (which lasted seven years), writing and directing, filming and editing movies for the soft porn industry, and bringing with them a flair not really seen in the industry before. Elaborate costume designs, intricate storylines...and flesh....on a big budget for the industry at the time.

The Booth Brothers weren't satisfied with what they were doing, and wanted to try their hand at something more, and decided to try their hand at making original horror movies. First came Darkplace which is described by Julie Storm as
“A hillbilly giant and the local preacher exorcise their ritual of dark cleansing by locking you up inside an ancient box forcing you to face your inner demons. But when a 10-year-old boy is locked up inside, his darkest fears sets loose an inferno of relentless evil.”
This movie was followed by “Death tunnel” a film shot at Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky USA. At the time of filming a number of paranormal events happened to the cast and crew, which spawned a “side movie” called “Spooked”, which documented some of the tragedies that had happened at the abandoned asylum, as well as what was happening to the cast and crew. To say the documentary was “hit” is an understatement, it was somewhat of a phenomenon, and launched the Booth Brothers into the world of paranormal investigation, discovery and documentary making.

In an interview with Amanda R Browning, on the Booth Brothers website, Philip describes his first paranormal experience as follows:
“Shooting Death Tunnel. We were shooting a scene where a girl walks down the hall with a flashlight, and it was very humid, near a hundred degrees. And all of a sudden, a cold spot came all the way down the hallway and it went right through me while I was filming on the Dolley. It was like ice going through my chest, and on the back lens of the camera, there was a thin film of ice. When we looked back through the footage, there was a blurred image of a little girl at that exact moment. That just made us sit back and say, “Wow.” - there is so much more about the brother's experiences in this interview, you can find it here: http://spookednews.blogspot.com.au/2012/10/interview-with-booth-brothers-by-amanda.html

The Brothers went on to film a lot more paranormal related documentaries including:

The Possessed
Children of the Grave 1 & 2,
The Haunted Boy: The Secret Diary of the Exorcist,
Soul Catcher: Trail of Fears,
You can find these and other related materials for sale on their website at:
www.spookedtv.com

The Booth Brothers work as a team, with Philip being the eyes and Christopher the ears.
Philip has won many awards for his Directing, Editing, Digital FX artistry and Video Photography work, whilst Christopher has also been awarded for his excellence as a production designer, Producer, Composer and Musician.

As a team, they have written, directed, produced and scored over 50 HD features, including documentaries, cartoons, music videos and of course movies. Their talent has seen them appear at countless paranormal related events across the USA, and on interviews around the world.

Their investigation style, which is very sympathetic and compassionate has won them a legion of fans, including myself.

My favourite Booth Brothers documentaries are Children of Grave 1 & 2 – do you have a favourite? If so, let me know which one is yours in the comments section below!

Tooligie Hill UFO Crop Circle

Tooligie Hill

(first published 2010)

Eyre Peninsula - South Australia

Tooligie Hill is a hill in central South Australia. Tooligie Hill is at an altitude of about 190m above sea level.
The nearest towns, villages or cities to Tooligie Hill are the village of Cummins (52.6km away - show me), the village of Arno Bay (68.2km away - show me) and the town of Tumby Bay (68.5km away - show me).
The nearest road to Tooligie Hill is an unsealed road that is un-named in our database and comes within 864m of the summit.
The nearest sealed road to Tooligie Hill is the Tod Highway (12.6km away).

Reported by a local farmer in December 1971, this "single ring" crop circle was found in a field of wheat at Tooligie hill on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula.
The "Day by Day" column of The Advertiser reported the incident on 27th January 1972 ) "... sighted by Eyre Peninsula farmer Robert Habner in the middle of a wheat paddock.   "Farmer Habner found it while he was reaping.   No tracks led to or from it. "
The Circle was investigated by local "UFO legend", the late Mr Colin Norris, who took many photos, soil samples and interviewed many locals. No conclusions on what the circle was have been made public.

As reported:
Dec 1971 Tooligie Hill SA NL/FSA (33:48, 135:51)
A 1.1 m diameter circle, ringed by a 45cm wide trench pressed deep into hard clay soil was found. The trench, in turn, was ringed by a 60cm wide band of flattened wheat, swirled in an anti-clockwise direction. The night before, a local family had observed a red ball of light descending towards that paddock. (UFORSA. RAAF file A703 580/1/1 Part 17 pp76-86. Australian UFO Report Feb 72.)

These weren't the first Crop circles reported on the Eyre Peninsula others include:
Late 1966 Eyre Peninsula SA: An Adelaide resident and partner, driving in a remote area came across a group of circles on a flat stretch of earth. There were 8 in total, all identical in shape and size. Some overlapped. Said to be 6m in diameter, perfectly round. It appeared 2 had been burnt into the earth.

RAAF Correspondence dated 29th May 1972:
  “6/32/Air(10);Headquarters RAAF; Edinburgh SA 5111; 29th May 1972;
Department of Air (Attention: D/DAFI IR); For Information: Headquarters Operational Command”: …

2.
As on many occasions in the past, the report arrived at this Headquarters too late to make an investigation possible without considerable embarrassment and possible adverse publicity. The various UFO societies in this State, while aware of the RAAF's responsibility to investigate UFO sightings in an official capacity, are nonetheless reluctant to pass on information on UFO sightings to the RAAF until they have "picked the bones clean". …

3.
Every attempt has been made by this Headquarters to elicit the co-operation of local UFO organisations and in particular the AFSRS, in an endeavour to gain some first-hand information on UFO sightings. ... It would appear that, in spite of sparse and rather patronising publicity by the mass media to the effect that the RAAF is the responsible UFO-reporting organisation, and arrangements with the police to have any individual sighting a UFO contact this Headquarters, the public at large in this State remains either ignorant of the correct procedure, or chooses to contact the more glamorous - and credulous - "flying saucer" society.

A second document to Headquarters Operational Command, dated 20th June 1972,
along with a copy of a report by Inspector Adolf Schlein of Port Lincoln Police, included correspondence to the South Australian Commissioner of Police. The second document: ...

1.
Peculiar ground markings discovered on a farming property at Tooligie Hill, Eyre Peninsula, in late December 1971.

2.
The matter first came to the notice of this Headquarters through the "Day by Day" column of The Advertiser on 27th January 1972 (which mentioned the markings) "... sighted by Eyre Peninsula farmer Robert Habner in the middle of a wheat paddock. "Farmer Habner found it while he was reaping. No tracks led to or from it. Peter is investigating"

3. This Headquarters' OIC UFOs ...
contacted the Peter Powell referred to in the clipping and ... received assurances of co-operation. Mr.Powell stated that considerable interest in the Tooligie Hill "phenomenon" was being evinced by local UFO groups and added that a meeting of several of the groups, including the Australian Flying Saucer Research Society (of Colin Norris notoriety), was to be held that Sunday (30th January 1972) ... At this juncture, it became apparent that a belated RAAF investigation of the "phenomenon" would attract unwanted publicity, and would in any case probably be paralleled by simultaneous investigations by civilian groups. The question of "co-operation" between the RAAF and local UFO groups would then be a matter for speculation and individual interpretation by the media. This Headquarters, therefore, deemed it prudent not to initiate an on-site investigation into the incident at the time.

4. (Newspaper accounts referred to) a projected "safari" to the Eyre Peninsula to investigate the "phenomenon"...

Flt. Lt. King (O i/c UFOI) minuted the following: This morning I received a phone call from Mrs Habner of Tooligie Hill. She said that Messers Ianson and Mackereth (of AFSRS) had arrived and were investigating the "phenomenon" on the Habner property.
As might be expected, Mr. Norris had arranged the usual publicity and the ABC, 5KA and the Advertiser, according to Mrs Habner, were on the scene or on tap. She said that she had not expected so much publicity and in any case it was Peter Powell who was supposed to be doing the investigating.
His "safari" is due to arrive on Saturday and she had tried to contact him without success to tell him that he had been pre-empted. I informed Mrs Habner that there was nothing the RAAF could do about the situation and offered my condolences. Mrs. Habner seemed surprised that this HQ had not been informed officially of the "phenomenon" in the first instance as she had reported it to the police in the area. ORWO this morning noticed a leave application submitted by Cpl. A_____ of Catering Section. The address given on the application for the week's leave was c/- the Habner property. I interviewed Cpl A_____ who said he had answered an advertisement inserted in the local newspapers by Peter Powell for people to accompany him to Eyre Peninsula to investigate the finding. I briefed him on the "no-publicity" requirement and asked him to keep me informed of events." The airman referred to (above) was also mentioned in our (message) to your department. On his return from leave he was again interviewed by OIC UFOs. The "safari" had taken soil samples and photographed the markings, and also interviewed a number of people in the district, but after a week on the site had not made any findings. Present on the Habner property at the same time were two members of the Australian Flying Saucer Research Society, who also fossicked without discovering the origin of the markings.

5. (Mrs. Habner wrote to Flt. Lt. King):
I am sending you, as promised, some slides and information on the mark we found in our paddock on December 28th 1971. This mark was made in the middle of a wheat crop, with no tracks or marks leading in or out. The diameter of the rim-shape which is spun into the clay soil is approximately 7 feet. 2 feet from the outer edge of the mark the crop was laid flat in an anti-clockwise spinning motion, and in the centre, which measures 45 inches across, the crop was cut to a height of 9 inches. The crop was also laid flat (anti-clockwise again) in a small crescent which joins onto one side of the mark. About 12 feet away from the main mark is the same shaped marking spun into the wheat straw, but not with as much force as the main mark. This mark was just on the top of the straw and not cut into the ground. We can only think that whatever tried to land here was put off because of a small mallee stump, and, wanting a smoother place to land, rose up and hovered over to finally land on the main "site". One family in our district say they saw a strange light which would have been in that position. They saw this on Christmas Eve. We were away from home all that evening. We have had approximately 200 visitors from surrounding districts to see it and they all wonder what could have made this mark. The cutout circle is still there and will be until we plough it up for seeding. There are still markings of the spun down straw etc too, although they are not as clearly defined as they were when fresh...

6. (Attached) is a letter from this Headquarters to the Commissioner of Police, dealing with the incident:

The letter to the Commissioner: Dear Commissioner, … A telephone conversation between my Officer-in-Charge of UFOs and Mrs. Habner reveals that police authorities in the area were informed of the incident and indeed visited the Habner property prior to the "phenomenon" becoming public knowledge.... I am sure you will agree that, as this Headquarters was not informed of the incident in the first instance, any post-event official RAAF investigation of the incident, with attendant publicity, would prove not only unfeasible but also embarrassing to some extent. … In view of the above, I would appreciate your once again bringing to the notice of your staff the necessity of referring all UFO reports to this Headquarters with the minimum of delay. … Yours faithfully, E.T. Pickerd, Air Commodore.

The Commisioner’s reply: Dear Air Commodore Pickerd, ... I enclose copy of a report furnished by Inspector R.A. Schlein of Port Lincoln. … It appears that there was no actual sighting of a U.F.O. at Tooligie Hills in December last, and although the Inspector was aware of strange markings in a field, he did not consider there was sufficient evidence at that time to connect them with a U.F.O. Moreover, as there was already growth from the dislodged wheat heads, it seemed that some time must have elapsed since the disturbance. ...we are sorry that you have been hindered or embarrassed by the lack of an earlier report. Although members generally are already aware of the necessity to report such matters for your information, a further instruction will be issued by a notice in the Police Gazette. … Yours sincerely, J.G. McKinna, Commissioner of Police.

Karen Tiller - Paranormal Investigator at Eidolon Paranormal

Karen Tiller
On the 16th of October 2013, Eidolon Paranormal was approached by a year 11 student at Nuriootpa High School, Adam Robinson, with some questions regarding a research project into Paranormal phenomena he was undertaking. I felt Karen's answers to Adams questions were so great, that I decided (with Karen's permission) to make her answers her team profile for the website here...so without any further ado, I introduce to you my wonderful wife, Karen Tiller
- Allen Tiller

What got you interested in paranormal activity?

Well, I have always believed that ghosts do exist. I mean, I grew up in my Great Grandparents home, where whenever anything went missing or you couldn't find something but you were damned sure of where you put it, it was the resident spook Peter! It was always “Peter did it!” It was accepted that there was (paranormal) activity that occurred, and never really thought any more of it. There was one occasion, in particular, that was witnessed by a few family members, I was present also, that lead my Great Nana to seek an explanation of the activity. In short, it was believed to be my Great Aunty making contact with my Great Nana (Daughter attempting contact with her Mother)...
Like most people I imagine, I have always been enthralled by ghost stories and such but when it came down to it, I was pretty spooked by it all and didn't want to know about it. I always had the motto of “If they leave me alone, I'll leave them alone!” but that all changed when I met Allen Tiller and I was introduced to the big wide paranormal world. I never knew that people were apart of investigation teams let alone that they would go out and investigate supposed haunted locations and buildings or that there were TV shows out there such as Ghost Hunters International or Ghost Adventures etc.
And now here I am today, a full-fledged “Ghost Hunter” as many like to call us.

If you could only take one piece of ghost hunting equipment on an investigation, what would it be and why?

One piece of equipment? That is so difficult...I would have to say that in order to capture any possible evidence and also, to record your own feelings, reactions, what you see and what occurs around you, a video recorder would be the best one piece of equipment to take with you anywhere. Now, that doesn't matter if it is an older video tape recorder or an 8mm or if it is a newer digital recorder. You do not have to have the latest and greatest in order to go out there and film yourself and what you are investigating.
Of course, a higher quality camera and clearer vision may help enable you to distinguish between paranormal activity and non-paranormal occurrences. Although no one can tell you the best camera to use, or which type has captured the most activity and evidence, I believe it is yet to be seen. There are many on the market, new and old, I think it can be a case of personal choice, find what you enjoy using, have fun with it, try different things and don't worry if others have a different opinion, it's OK, they're allowed to and so are you.

Where is the most haunted location you have ever investigated?

I think that I am yet to investigate the most haunted location, I am still waiting for that location that I unquestioningly believe yes this place is 110% haunted. Now in saying that, I do believe that I have encountered activity in certain locations and that they are indeed haunted but I have not had the privilege to investigate there.

Where is the one place that you haven't investigated that you would most like to?

Gosh...another hard question!
There are so many places that I would love to investigate. In Australia and overseas. The one place that does stand out is actually a cemetery. Grey-friars Cemetery Edinburgh. I first saw it on an episode of Ghost Adventures but it has stood out as a fascinating and beautiful cemetery. I love the old world Gothic architecture, headstones and tombs. I would really LOVE to investigate Grey-friars.

Have you ever gotten scared during an investigation and have you ever been concerned about your safety because of paranormal activity?

I have gotten a little scared at one area of an investigation. It is at the Gladstone gaol in South Australia. On each occasion that we have been to the gaol, I have really disliked an area in the kitchen/dining room, it is off to the side of the kitchen, it looks like 2 cold rooms side by side in a little dark area. The first cold room has shelving with bits and pieces of crockery on it from memory. I really don't like it, the feeling is hard to explain, it is kind of like dread mixed with fear...I just know that I don't like it at all and it is really dark in that section, no light gets to it. The last time we were there overnight, a guest on the investigation had the same feelings as I did he didn't like it either, it creeped both of us out. So we decided to go in and do some EVP sessions and investigate further. (Our attempts were foiled due to people in the distance, they could be heard on the voice recorder and the cameras, ruining any potential evidence.)

What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone who is new to paranormal investigating?
The one piece of advice would be to observe what goes on around you. Look and listen to everything and take notes. Do your research and don't rely on other peoples research. Find out things for your self. Check up on things because all of what you find, what you read or what you are told is not necessarily true. Investigate for your self what you want to know. By all means, ask questions and lots of them and ask different people what their views are, what their beliefs are, what methods they use and what equipment they have faith in because everyone is different and everyone has a different style of doing things. And a lot of people believe in a lot of different things.
People have been doing this for a long time but there are no set rules and there are no definite answers. If anything, it just leads to more questions and wonderment.

If you have the opportunity to stick around after you die, would you and who would you haunt?
I would watch over people. I would like to think that I would try to communicate with family or friends to let them know that I am there. If I could, if I was able to, I would protect them.

What paranormal locations are in the Barossa and surrounding areas?
There are a number of reported ghosts of the Barossa, whether they are indeed true or not leaves a lot to be desired really. Personally, I can't vouch for any publicly. Most are just hearsay and rumours.

How can I find evidence to prove to others that paranormal activity exists?
This may be the hardest question to answer of all.
I think that we are all still trying that one actually. I think that most people who are out there taking photos, doing electronic voice recordings, setting up video cameras, setting up DVR (Digital Video Recorder) systems are all still trying and hoping to capture that piece of evidence that they can show to the world and go here, here it is, they do exist, I've got it!
There will always be the people that will believe that you have caught something and they will say “great catch, well done.” There will always be the people that will dispute whatever is placed in front of them and will not believe that you have captured anything at all, ever.
And then you will always have the people that look a little further, take a little time, dig a little deeper, take into consideration the surrounding conditions, the elements, the location, weather factors etc...
My point is to look further than what you can see on the surface, none of this is cut and dry and many people believe in many different things. Take a look at it all and learn, learn as much as you can and then decide for your self what is relevant to you and what resonates with you.
