P.I.: Past & Present - Simon Coleman

Simon Coleman

Many things deemed paranormal have happened in the life of Simon Coleman, Founder of Wraith Paranormal Research and Investigation, in Launceston Tasmania.
Simon has always had an interest in paranormal subjects, starting out listening to stories about old haunted houses around the suburbs of where he lived as a child.

As a child, he had “hallucinations” in which he saw people in the family home that no-one else could see, from this his curiosity stemmed, which eventually led him to see some amazing and some sickening occurrences.
As a young man, Simon was involved in a seance, whilst nothing “paranormal” happened during the event, it was on his way home that Simon began to experience phenomena he couldn't explain. His climate controlled car was set for a comfortable 24 degrees, but suddenly, halfway home on his drive home, the temperature dropped dramatically, to the point where it was suddenly freezing cold within the car, a bone chill even turning the heater to maximum could not move on.
At the same time, a feeling of paranoia overtook Simon, who suddenly got a feeling someone else was in the car with him, in the back-seat. Out of concern, he pulled over to check the car, and at this point, the atmosphere of the car changed, the heater whirred into life filling the car with hot air.

Whatever was in the car with Simon, left, and so began Simon’s journey to become a paranormal investigator, it was this event that led him to find answers to the mystery that had just happened to him.

Simon is passionate about his team, his research, and the investigations they conduct, and although Simon is the senior member, he doesn’t make much ado about a team hierarchy, instead of employing a sensibility of 'one team, one purpose'.

Often, in a show of mutual respect and unity, Wraith joins forces with another local team, Launceston Paranormal, of whom Simon speaks very highly “They bring their wealth of experience. We hold the same values of integrity and unity.”
Also, Simon tells me that his team offers other teams a service of quality research on locations that sometimes other teams may not have the time or resources to fully research themselves.

Simon currently lives in an old haunted house where, previously, he had been using old techniques to investigate his houses spirits, he recently used more modern equipment, often left unattended, only to find it nowhere near where he had left it, or turned off, which leads him to conclude his spirits do not like modern monitoring equipment very much!

Tasmania offers Simon and Co a wealth of interesting and accessible locations to investigate, but at the moment his team does not have permission to share a vast array of the paces they have investigated.

Simon does, however, favour one particular cemetery that his team uses as a proving ground for the equipment they purchase, much of which is Australian designed and made.
The team are currently also working on a project involving a daylight haunting in a public place, gathering data, hoping to conclude that there is predominant activity while the sun shines.
Gibbet Hill, in Perth Tasmania, a place that gained international notoriety for events there in 1837, is another location that Wraith is currently working a case file on, which will hopefully be made available to the public.

Simon has had an interesting experience recently with an EM pump her purchased
Simon “I recently purchased an EM Pump and frankly I wasn't sure of its ability to do what its reputed for. After turning it on and sitting quietly with it for a bit nothing much seemed to happen. Then an investigator reported feeling really cold
We immediately checked the temperature of where they were standing at it had fallen by more than 20 degrees below the surrounding air temperature we then backed up that reading with a second device and maintained identical results.
Then further to that, we were able to have the temperature change by asking. A surprising result that had never occurred at this location before.”

Although many have become before Simon in the paranormal community, investigating, researching, and gathering data, Simon has shown a dedication and passion that many of those before him have not.
His enthusiasm and love for what he does washes off on those around him, and will surely lead him to great discoveries and conclusive evidence.
To end today's interview I think I'll leave you with a quote from Simon that sums up his enthusiasm and point of view, thank you Simon, and Wraith Paranormal Research and Investigation for being a part of our blog series.

Simon “I think it’s in my blood now and it isn't something that I will tire from. There is so much to discover and so much we still don't fully understand. I guess it’s a bit like being a scientist at the forefront of discovery.”

Nikola Tesla

Happy Birthday, Nikola Tesla!!

(first published 10th July 2013)

Today we celebrate what would have been the 157th birthday of one of the greatest minds to have ever lived.
Nikola Tesla was born in Smiljan, Lika, in Croatia. Nikolas Father was Serbian Orthodox Priest, and his Mother a stay at home Muj, but one who would influence Nikola no-end, Djuka, his Mother was very inventive and designed her own home appliances to make her work easier for herself.
Nikola was a bright young man and studied at Realschule, Karlstadt, The Polytechnic Institute in Austria and The University of Prague, his specialities were mathematics and physics.
It was in 1881 that Nikola started working for a telephone company in Hungary as an electrical engineer. Soon he joined the Continental Edison Company in Paris France, which in turn led him to accept an offer for work in America with Thomas Edison in New York City.

Tesla & Edison got along well at first, but things changed when Tesla challenged Edisons notion that currents can only flow in one direction ( Direct Current ). Tesla knew better, and knew currents were cyclical and could change direction (AC) – This led to a stoush between the two men over a bonus Edison had offered Tesla to improve his system. Edison went back on his word and told Tesla the bonus had been an “American joke”. Tesla, justly, quit working for Edison

George Westinghouse, an American Industrialist, inventor and entrepreneur, saw an opportunity with Tesla Patents, to disrupt his rival Edison, and bought 40 U.S. Patents of Tesla's designs for polyphase alternating current generators, transformers and motors... Tesla ended up working for Westinghouse, where money was spent developing the AC system.

In 1895, one of Tesla's dreams became reality when his design for a new hydroelectric power plant became operational at Niagara Fall....

Tesla was the inventor of many things we use today, in fact, without Tesla, modern society would be very different indeed.

An incomplete list of inventions credited to Nikola Tesla:
1. Tesla Coil & auto ignition system
2. AC polyphase system
3. Exploration of solar and thermal energy
4. Transmitting Power without Wires
5. Radio (Marconi's patent was overturned in 1943)
6. Employing Electricity as a Fertiliser
7. Fluorescent Lighting & neon lights
8. X-ray devices
9. Vertical Take Off and Landing aircraft
10. Terrestrial Stationary Waves
11. Robotics
12. Devices for ionized gases
13. Superconducting device
14. Devices for lightning protection
15. Magnifying transmitter
16. Charged particles beam
17. Thermo-Electric Power
18. Radiation
19. Radar
20. Electrotherapeutics - Tesla currents
21. Computing Logic Circuits
22. Remote Control/Communications
23. Bladeless Turbine
24. Apparatus for ozone generation

P.I.: Past & Present: Professor Werner Schiebeler

 Professor Werner Schiebeler

A leading parapsychologist in Germany Dr Werner Schiebeler was born on March 17th 1923 in Bremen, Germany.
After World War 2, Werner studied physics at Gottingen and received his Doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Flow Research.
From 1955 – 1965 Werner worked in the electrical industry, inventing and patenting numerous inventions he created. For seven years of the ten-year stay in Pforzheim, he was Director of the Development Department for electronic telex equipment.

In 1965 he moved on to Ravensburg Polytechnik where he began to lecture on Physics and electronics, 6 years later he was appointed Professor (1971), and another 12 years later he retired at the age of 60 years old in 1983.
After his retirement, Werner began to intensify his research into aspects of parapsychology something he had longed to do since 1969 when he gave lectures at university on parapsychology and psychophysics parameters
Professor Schiebeler's career and work didn’t go unnoticed, in 1974 he was awarded by the Associazione Italiana Scientifica di Metapsichica with the Ernesto Bozzano Award, and in 1988 he received an award from the Association for Parapsychology in Bern, Switzerland, and much more recently, in 2004 another “Swiss Award”.
Werner also made to films about healing methods used in the Philippines and published 12 books and 15 pamphlets on various parapsychology topics.
Including:

  • Testimony to the world beyond. A representation of the experience of evidence
  • The bridge to a new life evidence of a personal life after death, the report of a physicist
  • Life after earthly death. Experiences of the dead
  • Fates after death Mutual aid between this world and the hereafter
  • The mystery in our world. Strange phenomena that want to make us aware

Through all his research and discovery in Parapsychology, Para-psychophysics, Exceptional Healings, Consciousness and modern death and afterlife research, Werner lost his faith in God and always recognised himself as a Christian with a strong belief in God.
It was always his underlying mission, in all his work to make people more aware of parapsychological research, and let people know the physical death of our bodies was not the end of our existence, just a change of reality.

For Werner religion and charity gave meaning to life, where science could not.

Werner: "If we receive the knowledge of that which is offered to us from the world in which we, after death, result. If we consider it, and use it carefully, and align the guide of our actions accordingly, then we can go through life with other living people with more peace and serenity. Even after we suffer setbacks, we look at the life in this world only as a stepping stone to a life after death, and not get upset in the mass hysteria, as they do when death is an irrevocable terminus for us."

Professor Werner Schiebeler died on January 12, 2006, in his home. A charitable Protestant man, who even in his final years was willing to help others and offer his knowledge to those seeking it.

P.I: Past & Present - Fox Mulder One Year Anniversary

Fox Mulder - Special Edition

This week marks our 52nd "Paranormal Investigators: Past & Present" blog - That's one whole year of profiling under our belt. We've been around the world, Australia, Spain, Brazil, Hungary, Ireland, the USA, Canada and many other countries. We are hoping to be able to continue for another year and visit many more far flung places.
To mark our anniversary, I thought we'd look at someone who, although fictional, made a mark on the imaginations of many of my generations paranormal investigators...

Fox Mulder

Fox Mulder, works in the X-Files division of America's Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent.
Mulder's passion for bizarre and unusual has led him into some of the weirdest cases the FBI has ever had on record, usually cases other Agents do not want to touch, or cold case files that are considered too bizarre for most.
Mulder is often looked at as an oddity by his FBI peers, which earned him the nickname “Spooky” by other agents, for his sometimes far-fetched theories on UFO's, extraterrestrial activity and Government Conspiracies.

The path the led Mulder to his passion for the paranormal and to becoming an investigator is a long and muddled one, but its origins lay within the abduction of his little sister, Samantha, which left Mulder scarred and with an endless list of questions, which open to more questions as he discovers his own Father is involved in her abduction!

Mulder graduated from the University of Oxford in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, he then studied at the Quantico FBI Training Academy and graduated in 1984 with Honours... He joined the FBI officially ion October 24th 1986 and began working at the Behavioural Sciences Unit under Agent Bill Patterson working on cases as a psychological profiler.
In 1998 he was reassigned to the Violent Crimes Unit and came across his first “X-Files” case, cases deemed to be “Paranormal” “Fringe” or unexplainable, Mulder, in his spare time started reading the case files and became obsessive about them.
In 1991 Fox Mulder was allowed to re-open the X-Files division and started looking into the weird and sometimes shocking cases, he was assigned a partner, Special Agent Diana Fowley, but she was soon reassigned and a new Special Agent, one with a grounding in Scientific Reasoning and Method, Special Agent Dana Scully.

Fox Mulder's investigations have taken his across the world from the USA to Russia and other locations, he has also been abducted by Aliens in his time and also infected by an Alien Virus.
Whilst he was abducted, for almost a year, his position in the X-Files division was handed to other Agents, Fox eventually returned to work for the FBI for a small amount of time, but was eventually fired for not following directives and orders from his superiors.
At this point, his life came under threat and he fled into hiding in New Mexico, where he stumbled on evidence of the government hiding an alien colonisation effort, trying to bring the new evidence to light Mulder found himself arrested for the murder of Knowle Rohrer, and was sentenced to death.
Mulder, with the help of Scully, broke out of prison and spent 6 years on the run from the law, until his name was cleared, except by the FBI themselves, whom still have him on their “wanted” lists, but are happy to have him “out of the way” for now.
Mulder lives in isolation away from the world, until the FBI come to him asking for his help with a case where an agent has been kidnapped, that also involves a Priest who is having psychic visions.

The last time Mulder was seen, was with Former Special Agent Dana Scully, in a boat near a tropical island

P.I.: Past & Present - Professor Robert McConnell

Professor Robert McConnell

Professor Robert McConnell was the first president of the Parapsychological Association (USA) and a Fellow of the American Psychological Society. He spent 60 years studying parapsychology and was also the Professor Emeritus of Biological Science at the University of Pittsburgh. McConnell also held a PhD in Engineering Physics.
Professor McConnell was born in 1914 and by 1943, found himself working in war research lab whilst studying for his PhD., He also worked as on the technical staff at MIT.

For the next nineteen years McConnell experimented, using students of Pittsburgh University, his study involved getting the students to wish for control of dice to land with the number they wished facing upwards. Hundreds of people were tested during the experiment, for a 40-minute session, once each.

From 1953 to 1968 McConnell also ran another series of experiments, collaborating as a junior partner, with G.R. Schmeidler, H. Forwald and M.L.Anderson. Researching and experimenting with Extra Sensory Perception and Psychokinesis, whilst all this was happening, McConnell also wrote often to other scientists and science-related media outlets trying to gain support and funding for his field of science and for his work.

McConnell's vast catalogue of data from his EDP and PK experiments needed to be analysed, and in 1968 the process began in earnest. McConnell already knew his findings were going to create discord amongst the scientific elite, as most scientists of the time were totally against any kind of Parapsychology studies (as many still are today).

Nevertheless, McConnell stuck to his guns and continued to analyse his data and write reports on his findings, publishing them himself where he could. He sent copies to various people in other academic and scientific fields, often for free. He cited that by 1991 he had given away over 17,800 copies of his books to what he considered “The Scientific Elite”.

In 1982 Professor McConnell was asked to speak at Cambridge University for the combined celebration anniversaries of the 25th year of the Parapsychological Association and the 100th year Anniversary of the British Society for Psychical Research.
He spoke of the future of mankind, which was later expanded in his 1983 book “Parapsychology and Self-Deception in Science”

Professor McConnell went on to write many more books, but perhaps his most significant one is titled “God.org Are You There?: On the Deeper Meaning of ESP,” in which he muses on his 60 year career and why, in his belief, there is much evidence for the reality of ESP-related “psi phenomena” in reality, which in turn makes theories about the existence of a “god” much more plausible the current scientific standpoint that Science is God.

Professor McConnell died in 2006, but his legacy lives on, including his radar research during World War 2, and his numerous volumes of books and analytical papers about Extra Sensory Perception and Psychokinesis

To finish today, a quote from the Professor:
“ With rare exceptions and except within their chosen speciality, scientists are like the rest of humanity… For peace of mind, they believe what they want with little regard for evidence.” - Dr R.A.McConnell

The Following books were written by Professor McConnell
  • Encounters with Parapsychology
  • Parapsychology and Self-Deception in Science
  • An Introduction to Parapsychology in the Context of Science
  • Parapsychology in Retrospect
  • Far Out in the New Age: The Subversion of Science by Cultural Communism
  • Joyride To Infinity: A Scientific Study of the Doomsday Literature
  • God.org Are You There?: On the Deeper Meaning of ESP
